Free cumulants and freeness for unitarily invariant random tensors
We address the question of the asymptotic description of random tensors that are local-unitary invariant, that is, invariant by conjugation by tensor products of independent unitary matrices. We consider both the mixed case of a tensor with $D$ inputs and $D$ outputs, and the case where there is a factorization between the inputs and outputs, called pure, which includes the random tensor models extensively studied in the physics literature.
The finite size and asymptotic moments are defined using correlations of certain invariant polynomials encoded by $D$-tuples of permutations, up to relabeling equivalence. Finite size free cumulants associated to the expectations of these invariants are defined through invertible finite size moment-cumulants formulas.
Two important cases are considered asymptotically: pure random tensors that scale like a complex Gaussian, and mixed random tensors that scale like a Wishart tensor. In both cases, we derive a notion of tensorial free cumulants associated to first order invariants, through moment-cumulant formulas involving summations over non-crossing permutations. The pure and mixed cases involve the same combinatorics, but differ by the invariants that define the distribution at first order. In both cases, the tensorial free-cumulants of a sum of two independent tensors are shown to be additive. A preliminary discussion of higher orders is provided.
Tensor freeness is then defined as the vanishing of mixed first order tensorial free cumulants. The equivalent formulation at the level of asymptotic moments is derived in the pure and mixed cases, and we provide an algebraic construction of tensorial probability spaces, which generalize non-commutative probability spaces: random tensors converge in distribution to elements of these spaces, and tensor freeness of random variables corresponds to tensor freeness of the subspaces they generate.
Non-crossing permutations for the KP solitons under the Gel'fand-Dickey reductions and the vertex operators

We give a classification of the $regular$ soliton solutions of the KP hierarchy, referred to as the $KP solitons$, under the Gel'fand-Dickey $\ell$-reductions in terms of the permutation of the symmetric group. As an example, we show that the regular soliton solutions of the (good) Boussinesq equation as the 3-reduction can have $at ~most$ one resonant soliton in addition to two sets of solitons propagating in opposite directions. We also give a systematic construction of these soliton solutions for the $\ell$-reductions using the vertex operators. In particular, we show that the $non-crossing$ permutation gives the regularity condition for the soliton solutions.

We compute the deterministic approximation for mixed fluctuation moments of products of deterministic matrices and general Sobolev functions of Wigner matrices. Restricting to polynomials, our formulas reproduce recent results of [Male, Mingo, Peché, Speicher 2022], showing that the underlying combinatorics of non-crossing partitions and annular non-crossing permutations continue to stay valid beyond the setting of second-order free probability theory. The formulas obtained further characterize the variance in the functional central limit theorem obtained recently in the companion paper [Reker 2023].

For a given permutation or set partition there is a natural way to assign a genus. Counting all permutations or partitions of a fixed genus according to cycle lengths or block sizes, respectively, is the main content of this article. After a variable transformation, the generating series are rational functions with poles located at the ramification points in the new variable. The generating series for any genus is given explicitly for permutations and up to genus 2 for set partitions. Extending the topological structure not just by the genus but also by adding more boundaries, we derive the generating series of non-crossing partitions on the cylinder from known results of non-crossing permutations on the cylinder. Most, but not all, outcomes of this article are special cases of already known results, however they are not represented in this way in the literature, which however seems to be the canonical way. To make the article as accessible as possible, we avoid going into details into the explicit connections to Topological Recursion and Free Probability Theory, where the original motivation came from.
Counting non-crossing permutations on surfaces of any genus

Given a surface with boundary and some points on its boundary, a polygon diagram is a way to connect those points as vertices of non-overlapping polygons on the surface. Such polygon diagrams represent non-crossing permutations on a surface with any genus and number of boundary components. If only bigons are allowed, then it becomes an arc diagram. The count of arc diagrams is known to have a rich structure. We show that the count of polygon diagrams exhibits the same interesting behaviours, in particular it is almost polynomial in the number of points on the boundary components, and the leading coefficients of those polynomials are the intersection numbers on the compactified moduli space of curves.

We study the set $\sncb (p,q)$ of annular non-crossing permutations of type B, and we introduce a corresponding set $\ncb (p,q)$ of annular non-crossing partitions of type B, where $p$ and $q$ are two positive integers. We prove that the natural bijection between $\sncb (p,q)$ and $\ncb (p,q)$ is a poset isomorphism, where the partial order on $\sncb (p,q)$ is induced from the hyperoctahedral group $B_{p+q}$, while $\ncb (p,q)$ is partially ordered by reverse refinement. In the case when $q=1$, we prove that $\ncb (p,1)$ is a lattice with respect to reverse refinement order.
We point out that an analogous development can be pursued in type D, where one gets a canonical isomorphism between $\sncd (p,q)$ and $\ncd (p,q)$. For $q=1$, the poset $\ncd (p,1)$ coincides with a poset ``$NC^{(D)} (p+1)$'' constructed in a paper by Athanasiadis and Reiner in 2004, and is a lattice by the results of that paper.
