Totally odd subdivisions in Kneser graphs
As evidence for the Odd Hadwiger Conjecture, Simonyi and Zsbán (2010) showed that every Kneser graph $G$ with large enough order (compared to $χ(G)$) contains a totally odd subdivision of $K_{χ(G)}$. A recent result of Steiner (2024), shows that every Schriver graph, and thus every Kneser graph, satisfies the Odd Hadwiger Conjecture, that is, it contains $K_{χ(G)}$ as an odd minor. We strengthen these results for Kneser graphs in two ways. We show that for every $t\ge 8$, there are $t$-chromatic Kneser graphs that contain arbitrarily large complete totally odd subdivisions (and thus, odd minors). We also show that every Kneser graph contains a totally odd subdivision of $K_{χ(G)}$.
Kneser graphs are the prime example of graphs having chromatic number equal to its topological lower bounds. Motivated by our main results, we also study totally odd immersions on graphs with this property, proving, in particular, that if the chromatic number of $G$ is equal to any of its topological lower bounds, then $G$ contains a totally odd immersion of $K_{\lfloor χ(G)/2 \rfloor +1}$. This gives evidence for the immersion-analogue of the Odd Hadwiger Conjecture.
Enumeration of idempotent-sum subsequences in finite cyclic semigroups and smooth sequences
The enumeration of zero-sum subsequences of a given sequence over finite cyclic groups is one classical topic, which starts from one question of P. Erdős. In this paper, we consider this problem in a more general setting -- finite cyclic semigroups. Let $\mathcal{S}$ be a finite cyclic semigroup. By $\textbf{e}$ we denote the unique idempotent of the semigroup $\mathcal{S}$. Let $T$ be a sequence over the semigroup $\mathcal{S}$, and let $N(T; \textbf{e})$ be the number of distinct subsequences of $T$ with sum being the idempotent $\textbf{e}$. We obtain the lower bound for $N(T; \textbf{e})$ in terms of the length of $T$, and moreover, prove that $T$ contains subsequences with some smooth-structure in case that $N(T; \textbf{e})$ is not large. Our result generalizes the theorem obtained by W. Gao [Discrete Math., 1994] on the enumeration of zero-sum subsequences over finite cyclic groups to the setting of semigroups.
A complement of the Erdős-Hajnal problem on paths with equal-degree endpoints
Answering a question of Erdős and Hajnal, Chen and Ma proved that for all \(n\geq600\) every graph with \(2n + 1\) vertices and at least \(n^2 + n+1\) edges contains two vertices of equal degree connected by a path of length three. The complete bipartite graph $K_{n,n+1}$ shows that this edge bound is sharp. In this paper, we develop a novel approach to handle graphs with large equal degrees, which enables us to establish the result for all $n\ge2$, thereby fully resolving the problem posed by Erdős and Hajnal.

We prove a conjecture of Geelen, Gerards, and Whittle that for any finite field $GF(q)$ and any integer $t$, every cosimple $GF(q)$-representable matroid with sufficiently large girth contains either $M(K_t)$ or $M(K_t)^*$ as a minor.
Pancyclicity in hypergraphs with large uniformity
A Berge cycle of length $\ell$ in a hypergraph $\mathcal{H}$ is a sequence of alternating vertices and edges $v_0e_0v_1e_1...v_\ell e_\ell v_0$ such that $\{v_i,v_{i+1}\}\subseteq e_i$ for all $i$, with indices taken modulo $\ell$.
For $n$ sufficiently large and $r\geq \lfloor\frac{n-1}{2}\rfloor-1$ we prove exact minimum degree conditions for an $n$-vertex, $r$-uniform hypergraph to contain Berge cycles of every length between $2$ and $n$. In conjunction with previous work, this provides sharp Dirac-type conditions for pancyclicity in $r$-uniform hypergraphs for all $3\leq r\leq n$ when $n$ is sufficiently large.
Tanglegrams with a Unique 1-Crossing-Critical Subtanglegram have Tangle Crossing Number 1
A tanglegram of size n is a graph formed from two rooted binary trees with n leaves each and a perfect matching between their leaf sets. Tanglegrams are used to model co-evolution in various settings. A tanglegram layout is a straight line drawing where the two trees are drawn as plane trees with their leaf-sets on two parallel lines, and only the edges of the matching may cross. The tangle crossing number of a tanglegram is the minimum crossing number among its layouts. It is known that tanglegrams have crossing number at least one precisely when they contain one of two size 4 subtanglegrams, which we refer to as cross-inducing subtanglegrams. We show here that a tanglegram with exactly one cross inducing subtanglegram must have tangle crossing number exactly one, and ask the question whether the tangle-crossing number of tanglegrams with exactly k cross-inducing subtanglegrams is bounded for every k.

Given a family F of graphs, a graph G is F-free if it does not contain any graph in F as an induced subgraph. The problem of determining the complexity of colouring (claw, 4K1)- free graphs is a well-known open problem. In this paper we solve the colouring problem for a subclass of (claw, 4K1)-free graphs. We design a polynomial-time algorithm to colour (claw, 4K1, bridge, C4-twin)-free graphs. This algorithm is derived from a structural theorem on (claw, 4K1, bridge, C4-twin)-free graphs.
On the structure of (dart, odd hole)-free graphs
A hole is a chordless cycle with at least four vertices. A hole is odd if it has an odd number of vertices. A dart is a graph which vertices $a, b, c, d, e$ and edges $ab, bc, bd, be, cd, de$. Dart-free graphs have been actively studied in the literature. We prove that a (dart, odd hole)-free graph is perfect, or does not contain a stable set on three vertices, or is the join or co-join of two smaller graphs. Using this structure result, we design a polynomial-time algorithm for finding an optimal colouring of (dart, odd hole)-free graphs. A graph $G$ is perfectly divisible if every induced subgraph $H$ of $G$ contains a set $X$ of vertices such that $X$ meets all largest cliques of $H$, and $X$ induces a perfect graph. The chromatic number of a perfectly divisible graph $G$ is bounded by $ω^2$ where $ω$ denotes the number of vertices in a largest clique of $G$. We prove that (dart, odd hole)-free graphs are perfectly divisible.
Unavoidable subgraphs in digraphs with large out-degrees

We ask the question, which oriented trees $T$ must be contained as subgraphs in every finite directed graph of sufficiently large minimum out-degree. We formulate the following simple condition: all vertices in $T$ of in-degree at least $2$ must be on the same 'level' in the natural height function of $T$. We prove this condition to be necessary and conjecture it to be sufficient. In support of our conjecture, we prove it for a fairly general class of trees.
An essential tool in the latter proof, and a question interesting in its own right, is finding large subdivided in-stars in a directed graph of large minimum out-degree. We conjecture that any digraph and oriented graph of minimum out-degree at least $k\ell$ and $k\ell/2$, respectively, contains the $(k-1)$-subdivision of the in-star with $\ell$ leaves as a subgraph; this would be tight and generalizes a conjecture of Thomassé. We prove this for digraphs and $k=2$ up to a factor of less than $2$.
On polynomially high-chromatic pure pairs
Let $T$ be a forest. We study polynomially high-chromatic pure pairs in graphs with no $T$ as an induced subgraph ($T$-free graphs in other words), with applications to the polynomial Gyárfás-Sumner conjecture. In addition to reproving several known results in the literature, we deduce:
$\bullet$ If $T=P_5$ is the five-vertex path, then every $T$-free graph $G$ with clique number $w\ge2$ contains a complete pair $(A,B)$ of induced subgraphs with $χ(A)\ge w^{-d}χ(G)$ and $χ(B)\ge 2^{-d}χ(G)$, for some universal $d\ge1$. The proof uses the recent Erdős-Hajnal result for $P_5$-free graphs. Via the classical Gyárfás path argument, such a ``polynomial versus linear high-$χ$ complete pairs'' result can be viewed as further supporting evidence for the polynomial Gyárfás-Sumner conjecture for $P_5$. In particular, it implies
\[χ(G)\le w^{O(\log w/\log\log w)}\]
which asymptotically improves the bound $χ(G)\le w^{\log w}$ of Scott, Seymour, and Spirkl.
$\bullet$ If $T$ and a broom satisfy the polynomial Gyárfás-Sumner conjecture, then so does their disjoint union. Unifying earlier results of Chudnovsky, Scott, Seymour, and Spirkl, and of Scott, Seymour, and Spirkl, this gives new instances of $T$ for which the conjecture holds.
Permutation ensembles and acyclicity on product of simplices
We propose the study of $S_n$-ensembles: $n \times n$ arrays of permutations of $[n]$ that encode the boundary data of $nΔ_{n-1}$. We characterize precisely when an $S_4$-ensemble contains a permutation appearing exactly four times, leading to a complete description of the types of boundary of $4Δ_3$ that can be extended to fine mixed subdivisions.
An $\mathcal{O}(n)$ Space Construction of Superpermutations
A superpermutation is a sequence that contains every permutation of $n$ distinct symbols as a contiguous substring. For instance, a valid example for three symbols is a sequence that contains all six permutations. This paper introduces a new algorithm that constructs such sequences more efficiently than existing recursive and graph-theoretic methods. Unlike traditional techniques that suffer from scalability and factorial memory demands, the proposed approach builds superpermutations directly and compactly. This improves memory usage, enabling the construction of larger sequences previously considered impractical.
On possible uniform Turán densities
Given a family of $3$-graphs $\mathcal{F}$, the uniform Turán density $π_{\therefore}(\mathcal{F})$ is defined as the infimum $d\in[0,1]$ for which any sufficiently large uniformly $d$-dense $3$-graph - that is, a $3$-graph which has edge-density at least $d$ on all linearly sized subsets - contains a copy of some $F \in \mathcal{F}$. Let $Π_{\therefore,\text{fin}}$ denote the set of all possible uniform Turán densities of finite families. Erdős, Hajnal, and Rödl introduced a family of constructions for lower bounds on uniform Turán densities called palette constructions. We show that $Π_{\therefore,\text{fin}}$ contains every $d$ that is obtained as the uniform density of an optimized palette construction. A corollary of this is that $Π_{\therefore,\text{fin}}$ contains the set of Lagrangians of $3$-graphs and includes irrational numbers. Our work complements a recent result of Lamaison, which states that every value in $Π_{\therefore,\text{fin}}$ can be approximated by uniform densities of palette constructions.
Faithful universal graphs for minor-closed classes
It was proved by Huynh, Mohar, Šámal, Thomassen and Wood in 2021 that any countable graph containing every countable planar graph as a subgraph has an infinite clique minor. We prove a finite, quantitative version of this result: for fixed $t$, if a graph $G$ is $K_t$-minor-free and contains every $n$-vertex planar graph as a subgraph, then $G$ has $2^{Ω(n)}$ vertices. On the other hand, we construct a polynomial size $K_4$-minor-free graph containing every $n$-vertex tree as an induced subgraph, and a polynomial size $K_7$-minor-free graph containing every $n$-vertex $K_4$-minor-free graph as induced subgraph. This answers several problems raised recently by Bergold, Iršič, Lauff, Orthaber, Scheucher and Wesolek.
We study more generally the order of universal graphs for various classes (of graphs of bounded degree, treedepth, pathwidth, or treewidth), if the universal graphs retain some of the structure of the original class.

The variety of mutual-visibility problems contains four members, as does the variety of general position problems. The basic problem is to determine the cardinality of the largest such sets. In this paper, these eight invariants are investigated on Sierpiński graphs $S_p^n$. They are determined for the Sierpiński graphs $S_p^2$, $p\ge 3$. All, but the outer mutual-visibility number and the outer general position number, are also determined for $S_3^n$, $n\ge 3$. In many of the cases the corresponding extremal sets are enumerated.
On a Generalisation of a Function of Ron Graham's
Ron Graham introduced a function, $g(n)$, on the non-negative integers, in the 1986 Issue $3$ Problems column of \textit{Mathematical Magazine}: For each non-negative integer $n$, $g(n)$ is the least integer $s$ so that the integers $n + 1, n + 2, \ldots , s-1, s$ contain a subset of integers, the product of whose members with $n$ is a square. Recently, many results about $g(n)$ were proved in [Kagey and Rajesh, ArXiv:2410.04728, 2024] and they conjectured a characterization of which $n$ satisfied $g(n)=2n$. For $m\geq 2$, they also introduced generalizations of $g(n)$ to $m$-th powers to explore. In this paper, we prove their conjecture and provide some results about these generalisations.
Spectral radius and Hamiltonicity of uniform hypergraphs

Let $n$ and $r$ be integers with $n-2\ge r\ge 3$. We prove that any $r$-uniform hypergraph $\mathcal{H}$ on $n$ vertices with spectral radius $λ(\mathcal{H}) > \binom{n-2}{r-1}$ must contain a Hamiltonian Berge cycle unless $\mathcal{H}$ is the complete graph $K_{n-1}^r$ with one additional edge. This generalizes a result proved by Fiedler and Nikiforov for graphs. As part of our proof, we show that if $|\mathcal{H}| > \binom{n-1}{r}$, then $\mathcal{H}$ contains a Hamiltonian Berge cycle unless $\mathcal{H}$ is the complete graph $K_{n-1}^r$ with one additional edge, generalizing a classical theorem for graphs.
Graph covers and semi-covers: Who is stronger?
The notion of graph cover, also known as locally bijective homomorphism, is a discretization of covering spaces known from general topology. It is a pair of incidence-preserving vertex- and edge-mappings between two graphs, the edge-component being bijective on the edge-neighborhoods of every vertex and its image. In line with the current trends in topological graph theory and its applications in mathematical physics, graphs are considered in the most relaxed form and as such they may contain multiple edges, loops and semi-edges.
Nevertheless, simple graphs (binary structures without multiple edges, loops, or semi-edges) play an important role. It has been conjectured in [Bok et al.: List covering of regular multigraphs, Proceedings IWOCA 2022, LNCS 13270, pp. 228--242] that for every fixed graph $H$, deciding if a graph covers $H$ is either polynomial time solvable for arbitrary input graphs, or NP-complete for simple ones. A graph $A$ is called stronger than a graph $B$ if every simple graph that covers $A$ also covers $B$. This notion was defined and found useful for NP-hardness reductions for disconnected graphs in [Bok et al.: Computational complexity of covering disconnected multigraphs, Proceedings FCT 2022, LNCS 12867, pp. 85--99]. It was conjectured in [Kratochvíl: Towards strong dichotomy of graphs covers, GROW 2022 - Book of open problems, p. 10, {\tt https://grow.famnit.upr.si/GROW-BOP.pdf}] that if $A$ has no semi-edges, then $A$ is stronger than $B$ if and only if $A$ covers $B$. We prove this conjecture for cubic one-vertex graphs, and we also justify it for all cubic graphs $A$ with at most 4 vertices.

A sequence $D=(d_1,d_2,\ldots,d_n)$ of non-negative integers is called a graphic sequence if there is a simple graph with vertices $v_1,v_2,\ldots,v_n$ such that the degree of $v_i$ is $d_i$ for $1\leq i\leq n$. Given a graph theoretical property $\mathcal{P}$, a graphic sequence $D$ is forcibly $\mathcal{P}$ graphic if each graph with degree sequence $D$ has property $\mathcal{P}$. A graph is acyclic if it contains no cycles. A connected acyclic graph is just a tree and has $n-1$ edges. A graph of order $n$ is unicyclic (resp. bicyclic) if it is connected and has $n$ (resp. $n+1$) edges. Bar-Noy, Böhnlein, Peleg and Rawitz [Discrete Mathematics 346 (2023) 113460] characterized forcibly acyclic and forcibly connected acyclic graphic sequences. In this paper, we aim to characterize forcibly unicyclic and forcibly bicyclic graphic sequences.
Uniformly resolvable decompositions of $K_v$ into one $1$-factor and $n$-stars when $n>1$ is odd
We consider uniformly resolvable decompositions of $K_v$ into subgraphs such that each resolution class contains only blocks isomorphic to the same graph. We give a complete solution for the case in which one resolution class is $K_2$ and the rest are $K_{1,n}$ where $n>1$ is odd.
