Monochromatic triangle-tilings in dense graphs without large independent sets
Given two graphs $H$ and $G$, an $H$-tiling is a family of vertex-disjoint copies of $H$ in $G$. A perfect $H$-tiling covers all vertices of $G$. The Corradi-Hajnal theorem (1963) states that an $n$-vertex graph $G$ with minimum degree $δ(G)\ge 2n/3$ contains a perfect triangle-tiling. For an $n$-vertex graph $G$ with independence number $α(G)=o(n)$, Balogh, Molla and Sharifzadeh (Random Structures & Algorithms, 2016) showed that a minimum degree of $(\frac12+o(1))n$ forces a perfect triangle-tiling. In a 2-edge-colored graph, Balogh, Freschi, Treglown (European J. Combin. 2026) determined the (asymptotic) minimum degree threshold for forcing a strong or weak monochromatic triangle-tiling covering a prescribed proportion of the vertices: a strong tiling requires all triangles to be in the same color class, while a weak tiling only requires each triangle to be monochromatic. In this paper, we combine the conditions from these two lines of work and prove that every $2$-edge-colored $n$-vertex graph $G$ with $α(G)=o(n)$ contains a weak monochromatic triangle-tiling $Γ$ of size \[ |Γ|\ge \begin{cases} 2δ(G)-n-o(n), & \text{if }\frac12 n\le δ(G)\le \frac35 n,\\[2mm] δ(G)/3-o(n), & \text{if }δ(G)>\frac35 n. \end{cases} \] Both bounds are asymptotically optimal. We use the degree form regularity lemma in our proof.

Roth-type theorems in $K_{s,t}$-free sets
We show that for all integers $2\le s\le t$, any $K_{s,t}$-free subset of $[N]$ with size $Ω(n^{1-1/s})$ must contain a nontrivial solution to every fixed translation-invariant linear equation in at least five variables. This extends earlier results for Sidon sets due to Conlon-Fox-Sudakov-Zhao and Prendiville to the full family of $K_{s,t}$-free sets. We also study the corresponding problem in vector spaces over finite fields. In $\mathbb F_q^n$ we obtain stronger quantitative bounds, including polylogarithmic savings, by combining Fourier-analytic transference with polynomial-method input from the arithmetic cycle-removal lemma of Fox-Lovász-Sauermann.

Signless Laplacian spectral conditions: Forbidden $4$-cycle and star embeddings
Published • View Publication • BIB
The signless Laplacian spectral radius has emerged as a crucial spectral parameter in network science. This paper establishes new extremal results in spectral graph theory by investigating the signless Laplacian spectral radius ($Q$-index) of graphs with forbidden subgraphs. We present a $Q$-spectral analog of classical Nosal-type theorems, providing sharp conditions that guarantee the existence of either a $4$-cycle or a large star $K_{1,m-k}$ in a graph. The main theorem states that for integers $k \geq 0$ and graphs $G$ with size $m \geq \max\{7k+31, k^2+8(k+1)\}$, if $q(G) \geq q(S^+_{m,k+1})$, then $G$ must contain a $4$-cycle or $K_{1,m-k}$, unless $G$ is isomorphic to the extremal graph $S^+_{m,k+1}$ formed by adding $k+1$ independent edges to the star $K_{1,m-k-1}$. This result refines previous work on star embeddings by Wang and Guo [Journal of Algebraic Combinatorics, 59 (2024) 213--224], and completes the $Q$-spectral counterpart to Wang's adjacency spectral theorem for $4$-cycle containment [Discrete Math., 345 (2022) 112973]. Our analysis reveals new insights into how signless Laplacian eigenvalues encode graph structure, with tight bounds demonstrated through explicit extremal graph constructions and asymptotic analysis.

Rigidity-Induced Scaling Laws in Unit Distance Graphs: The Algebraic Collapse of Dense Substructures
We revisit the classical Unit Distance Problem posed by Erdős in 1946. While the upper bound of $O(n^{4/3})$ established by Spencer, Szemer'edi, and Trotter (1984) is tight for systems of pseudo-circles, it fails to account for the algebraic rigidity inherent to the Euclidean metric. By integrating structural rigidity decomposition with the theory of Cayley-Menger varieties, we demonstrate that unit distance graphs exceeding a critical density must contain rigid bipartite subgraphs. We prove a "Flatness Lemma," supported by symbolic computation of the elimination ideal, showing that the configuration variety of a unit-distance $K_{3,3}$ (and by extension $K_{4,4}$) in $\mathbb{R}^2$ is algebraically singular and collapses to a lower-dimensional locus. This dimensional reduction precludes the existence of the amorphous, high-incidence structures required to sustain the $n^{4/3}$ scaling, effectively improving the upper bound for non-degenerate Euclidean configurations.

Bounds on Linear Turán Number for Trees
Published • View Publication • BIB
A hypergraph $H$ is said to be \emph{linear} if every pair of vertices lies in at most one hyperedge. Given a family $\mathcal{F}$ of $r$-uniform hypergraphs, an $r$-uniform hypergraph $H$ is \emph{$\mathcal{F}$-free} if it contains no member of $\mathcal{F}$ as a subhypergraph. The \emph{linear Turán number} $ex_r^{\mathrm{lin}}(n,\mathcal{F})$ denotes the maximum number of hyperedges in an $\mathcal{F}$-free linear $r$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices. Gyárfás, Ruszinkó, and Sárközy~[\emph{Linear Turán numbers of acyclic triple systems}, European J.\ Combin.\ (2022)] initiated the study of bounds on the linear Turán number for acyclic $3$-uniform linear hypergraphs. In this paper, we extend the study of linear Turán number for acyclic systems to higher uniformity. We first give a construction for any linear $r$-uniform tree with $k$ edges that yields the lower bound $ ex_r^{\mathrm{lin}}(n,T_k^r)\ge {n(k-1)}/{r}, $ under mild divisibility and existence assumptions. Next, we study hypertrees with four edges. We prove the exact bound $ ex_r^{\mathrm{lin}}(n,B_4^r)\le {(r+1)n}/{r} $ and characterize the extremal hypergraph class, where $B_4^r$ is formed from $S_3^r$ by appending a hyperedge incident to a degree-one vertex. We also prove the bound $ ex_r^{\mathrm{lin}}(n,E_4^r)\le {(2r-1)n}/{r} $ for the crown $E_4^r$. Finally, we give a construction showing $ ex_r^{\mathrm{lin}}(n,P_4^r)\ge {(r+1)n}/{r} $ under suitable assumptions and conclude with a conjecture on sharp upper bound for $P_4^r$.

The spectral extrema of graphs of odd size forbidding $H(4,3)$ beyond the book graph
Published • View Publication • BIB
A graph is said to be $H$-free if it does not contain a subgraph isomorphic to $H$. The fish graph, denoted by $H(4, 3)$, is a $6-$vertex graph obtained from a cycle of length $4$ and a triangle by sharing a common vertex. Earlier it is shown that $λ(G)\leq \frac{1+\sqrt{4m-3}}{2}$ holds for all $H(4,3)-$free graphs of odd size $m\geq 44,$ and the equality holds if and only if $G\cong S_{\frac{m+3}{2},2},$ where $S_{\frac{m+3}{2},2}$ is the $m-$edge book graph $K_2 \vee \frac{m-1}{2}K_1,$ where $K_2 \vee \frac{m-1}{2}K_1,$ denotes the join of $K_2$ and $\frac{m-1}{2}K_1.$ Let $\mathcal{G}(m,H(4,3))$ denote the family of $H(4,3)$-free graphs with $m$ edges and no isolated vertices. We write $ \mathcal{G}(m,H(4,3)) \setminus \left\{ K_2 \vee \tfrac{m-1}{2}K_1 \right\} $ for the corresponding subfamily obtained by excluding the book graph. In this paper, we establish a sharp upper bound on the spectral radius of graphs over $\mathcal{G}(m,H(4,3))\setminus \{K_2 \vee \frac{m-1}{2}K_1\}$ for odd $m\geq 58$ and characterize the unique extremal graph attaining this bound.

Representations of the Flat Space Wavefunction
Published • View Publication • BIB
From any graph $G$ arises a flat space wavefunction, obtained by integrating a product of propagators associated to the vertices and edges of $G$. This function is a key ingredient in the computation of cosmological correlators, and several representations for it have been proposed. We formulate three such representations and prove their correctness. In particular, we show that the flat space wavefunction can be read off from the canonical form of the cosmological polytope, and we settle a conjecture of Fevola, Pimentel, Sattelberger, and Westerdijk regarding a partial fraction decomposition for the flat space wavefunction. The terms of the decomposition correspond to certain collections of connected subgraphs associated to $G$ and its spanning subgraphs, reflecting the fact that the flat space wavefunction contains information about how $G$ is connected.

Short Rainbow Circuits in Regular Matroids
DeVos et al conjectured that if $M$ is a simple, regular matroid and $c$ is a colouring of the elements of $M$ with $r(M)+1$ colours, where each colour class has at least two elements, then $M$ contains a rainbow circuit of size at most $\lceil \frac {r(M)+1}2 \rceil.$ We prove this conjecture by showing that for all such regular matroids there are four rainbow circuits $C_i,\ i = 1,2,3,4$ for which $\sum_i |C_i| \le 2r(M) +4$ and for which no element of $M$ belongs to more than two of the circuits.

Weakly pancyclic vertices in dense nonbipartite graphs
Let $G$ be a graph of girth $g$ and circumference $c.$ A vertex $v$ of $G$ is called weakly pancyclic if $v$ lies on an $\ell$-cycle for every integer $\ell$ with $g\le \ell\le c.$ We prove that if $G$ is a nonbipartite graph of order $n\ge 5$ and size at least $\left\lfloor(n-1)^2/4\right\rfloor+2,$ then $G$ contains three weakly pancyclic vertices, with one exception. This strengthens a result of Brandt from 1997. We also pose a related problem.

Rainbow spanning structures in strongly edge-colored graphs
An edge-colored graph is a graph in which each edge is assigned a color. Such a graph is called strongly edge-colored if each color class forms an induced matching, and called rainbow if all edges receive pairwise distinct colors. In this paper, by establishing a connection with $μn$-bounded graphs, we prove that for all sufficiently large integers $n$, every strongly edge-colored graph $G$ on $n$ vertices with minimum degree at least $\frac{n+1}{2}$ contains a rainbow Hamilton cycle. We also characterize all strongly edge-colored graphs on $n$ vertices with minimum degree exactly $\frac{n}{2}$ that do not contain a rainbow Hamilton cycle. As an application, we determine the optimal minimum degree conditions for the existence of rainbow Hamilton paths and rainbow perfect matchings in strongly edge-colored graphs. Together, these results verify three conjectures concerning strongly edge-colored graphs for sufficiently large $n$.

Dean's conjecture and cycles modulo k
Dean conjectured three decades ago that every graph with minimum degree at least $k\ge 3$ contains a cycle whose length is divisible by $k$. While the conjecture has been verified for $k\in \{3,4\}$, it remains open for $k\ge 5$. A weaker version, also proposed by Dean, asserting that every $k$-connected graph contains a cycle of length divisible by $k$, was resolved by Gao, Huo, Liu, and Ma using the notion of admissible cycles. In this paper, we resolve Dean's conjecture for all $k\ge 6$. In fact, we prove a stronger result by showing that every graph with minimum degree at least $k$ contains cycles of length $r \pmod k$ for every even integer $r$, unless every end-block belongs to a specific family of exceptional graphs, which fail only to contain cycles of length $2 \pmod k$. We also establish a strengthened result on the existence of admissible cycles. Our proof introduces two sparse graph families, called trigonal graphs and tetragonal graphs, which provide a flexible framework for studying path and cycle lengths and may be of independent interest.

Bialgebraic structures on boolean functions
We study several bialgebraic structures on boolean functions, that is to say maps defined on the set of subsets of a finite set $X$, taking the value $0$ on $\emptyset$. Examples of boolean functions are given by the indicator function of the hyperedges of a given hypergraph, or the rank function of a matroid. We give the species of boolean functions a two-parameters family of products and a coproduct, and this defines a two-parameters family of twisted bialgebras. We then try to define a second coproduct on boolean functions, based on contractions, in order to obtain a double bialgebra. We show that this is not possible on the whole species of boolean functions, but that there exists a maximal subspecies where this is possible. This subspecies being rather mysterious, we introduce rigid boolean functions and show that this subspecies has indeed a second coproduct, as wished, and that it contains rank functions of matroids and indicator functions associated to hypergraphs. As a consequence, we obtain a unique polynomial invariant on rigid boolean functions, which is a generalization of the chromatic polynomial of graphs.

Gallai-Ramsey Numbers for $\ell$-Connected Graphs
Given a nonempty graph $G$, a collection of nonempty graphs $\cal{H}$, and a positive integer $k$, the Gallai-Ramsey number $\mathrm{gr}_k(G:\mathcal{H})$ is defined to be the minimum positive integer $n$ such that every exact $k$-edge-coloring of a complete graph $K_n$ contains either a rainbow copy of $G$ or a monochromatic copy of some element in $\mathcal{H}$. In this paper, we obtain some exact values and general lower and upper bounds for $\mathrm{gr}_k(G:\mathcal{F}^\ell)$, where $\mathcal{F}^\ell$ is the set of $\ell$-connected graphs and $G\in\{P_5, K_{1,3}\}$.
Avoiding configurations of small size in the square grid
We study the maximum size of a subset of the $n \times n$ integer grid that does not contain specific geometric configurations, a variation of the classical problems initiated by Erdős and Purdy. While extremal problems for 3-point patterns, such as collinear triples and right triangles are well-studied, the landscape for 4-point configurations in the grid remains less explored. In this paper, we survey the state-of-the-art regarding forbidden 3-point and 4-point configurations, including parallelograms, trapezoids, and concyclic sets. Furthermore, we prove new lower bounds for grid subsets avoiding rhombuses and kites. Specifically, by combining the probabilistic method with the arithmetic properties of Sidon sets, we show that the maximum size of a rhombus-free subset is $Ω(n^{4/3}(\log n)^{-1/3})$. We also provide near-quadratic lower bounds for sets avoiding kites with axis-parallel diagonals using Behrend-type constructions and discuss implications for square-free sets. These results illustrate the strong interplay between discrete geometry and additive combinatorics.

When all directed cycles have the same weight
A digraph $G$ is weightable if its edges can be weighted with real numbers such that the total weight in each directed cycle equals 1. There are several equivalent conditions: that $G$ admits a 0/1-weighting with the same property, or that $G$ contains no subdivided "double-cycle" as a subdigraph, or that for every triple of vertices, all directed cycles containing all three pass through them in the same cyclic order. And there is quite a rich supply of such digraphs: for instance, any digraph drawn in the plane such that each of its directed cycles rotates clockwise around the origin is weightable (let us call such digraphs "circular"), and there are weightable planar digraphs with much more complicated structure than this. Until now the general structure of weightable digraphs was not known, and that is our objective in this paper. We will show that: - there is a construction that builds every planar weightable digraph from circular digraphs; and - there is a (different) construction that builds every weightable digraph from planar ones. We derive a poly-time algorithm to test if a digraph is weightable.
A Lower Bound on the Expected Number of Distinct Patterns in a Random Permutation
Let $π_n$ be a uniformly chosen random permutation on $[n]$. The authors of [2] showed that the expected number of distinct consecutive patterns of all lengths $k\in\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$ in $π_n$ was $\frac{n^2}{2}(1-o(1))$ as $n\to\infty$, exhibiting the fact that random permutations pack consecutive patterns near-perfectly. A conjecture was made in [11] that the same is true for non-consecutive patterns, i.e., that there are $2^n(1-o(1))$ distinct non-consecutive patterns expected in a random permutation. This conjecture is false, but, in this paper, we prove that a random permutation contains an expected number of at least $2^{n-1}(1+o(1))$ distinct permutations; this number is half of the range of the number of distinct permutations.

Greedily Constructing Small Quasi-Kernels
In a digraph $D$,a quasi-kernel is an independent set $Q$ such that for every vertex $u$, there is a vertex $v \in Q$ satisfying $\text{dist}(v,u)\leq 2$. In 1974 Chvátal and Lovász showed every digraph contains a quasi-kernel. In 1976, P. L. Erdős and Székely conjectured that every sourceless digraph has a quasi-kernel of order at most $\frac{n}{2}$. Despite significant recent attention by the community the problem remains far from solved, with no bound of the form $(1-ε)n$ known. We introduce a polynomial time algorithm which greedily constructs a small quasi-kernel. Using this algorithm we show that if $D$ is a $\vec{K}_{1,d}$-free digraph, then $D$ has a quasi-kernel of order at most $\frac{(d^2 - 2d + 2)n}{d^2-d+1}$. By refining this argument we prove that for any $D$ with maximum out-degree $3$ this algorithm constructs a quasi-kernel of order at most ${4n}/{7}$. Finally, we consider the problem in digraphs forbidding certain orientation of short cycles as subgraphs, concluding that all orientations $D$ of a graph $G$ with girth at least $7$ have a quasi-kernel of order at most $\frac{(d^2+4)n}{(d+2)^2}$, where $d$ is the maximum out-degree of $D$.

The rank-nullity ring of a matroid
We introduce the rank-nullity ring of a matroid $M$, which is a subring of the Chow ring of the permutahedral toric variety. This subring contains the tautological Chern classes of $M$, a fact we deduce from a highly symmetric formula for these classes. When the matroid $M$ is a uniform matroid, the rank-nullity ring coincides with the subring of $S_n$-invariants of the Chow ring of the permutahedral toric variety. In this case, we compute its Hilbert function explicitly and provide a Gröbner basis for the ideal of relations among its generators.

On generalized Turán problems for expansions
Given a graph $F$, the $r$-expansion $F^r$ of $F$ is the $r$-uniform hypergraph obtained from $F$ by inserting $r-2$ new distinct vertices in each edge of $F$. Given $r$-uniform hypergraphs $\mathcal{H}$ and $\mathcal{F}$, the generalized Turán number, denoted by $\textrm{ex}_r(n,\mathcal{H},\mathcal{F})$, is the maximum number of copies of $\mathcal{H}$ in an $n$-vertex $r$-uniform hypergraph that does not contain $\mathcal{F}$ as a subhypergraph. In the case where $r=2$ (i.e., the graph case), the study of generalized Turán problems was initiated by Alon and Shikhelman [\textit{J. Combin. Theory Series B.} 121 (2016) 146--172]. Motivated by their work, we systematically study generalized Turán problems for expansions and obtain several general and exact results. In particular, for the non-degenerate case, we determine the exact generalized Turán number for expansions of complete graphs, and establish the asymptotics of the generalized Turán number for expansions of the vertex-disjoint union of complete graphs. For the degenerate case, we establish the asymptotics of generalized Turán numbers for expansions of several classes of forests, including star forests, linear forests and star-path forests.
Forbidding edge-critical graphs as trace in uniform hypergraphs
We say a hypergraph $\mathcal{H}$ contains a graph $G$ as trace if there exists a vertex subset $S \subseteq V(\mathcal{H})$ such that $|S| = V(G)$ and $\{e \cap S \mid e \in E(\mathcal{H})\}$ contains $G$ as a subgraph. We use $\mathrm{ex}(n, Tr_r(G))$ to denote the maximum number of edges in an $r$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices not containing $G$ as trace. The study of Turán numbers for traces was initiated by Mubayi and Zhao~(2017) who studied $\mathrm{ex}(n, Tr_r(K_{s+1}))$ where $K_{s+1}$ is a clique on $s+1$ vertices and conjectured the exact value of $\mathrm{ex}(n, Tr_r(K_{s+1}))$. When $r \le s$, the conjecture was covered by a result of Pikhurko~(2013) who gave the exact value of Turán numbers for expanded cliques. Then Gerbner and Picollelli~(2023) gave the exact value for book graphs~($K_{1,1,t}$, the complete tripartite graph with two parts of size one and one part of size $t \ge 2$). We say $G$ is edge-critical if there exists an edge $e \in E(G)$ such that $χ(G - e) < χ(G)$ where $χ(G)$ is the chromatic number of $G$. The definition of edge-critical was given by Simonovits~(1974), who proved that for an edge-critical graph $G$ with $χ(G) = s+1 \ge 3$, the Turán graph $T(n,s)$ is the unique extremal graph for $ex(n,G)$ as $n$ is sufficiently large. In this paper, we further generalize the results of Gerbner and Picollelli~(2023) to edge-critical graphs. More precisely, we prove that for an edge-critical graph $G$ with $χ(G) = s+1$, when $s \ge r \ge 3$ and $n$ is sufficiently large, the $r$-uniform Turán graph $T_r(n,s)$ is the unique extremal hypergraph.
