The MacaulayPosets package for Macaulay2
We introduce the package MacaulayPosets written for the computational algebra system Macaulay2. This package utilized the poset data type introduced in the Posets package and offers functionality for studying the Macaulay property for posets, particularly those which arise as monomial posets of commutative rings. A Macaulay poset is characterized by a ranked structure and a total order that interacts harmoniously with the partial order, enabling the establishment of bounds on the sizes of subsets of a given rank within an order ideal.

Let $A$ be a finite commutative ring with unity $1 \neq 0.$ An ideal of $A$ is said to be essential if it has a non-zero intersection with every non-zero ideal of $A.$ The essential graph of $A$ is a simple undirected graph whose vertex set consists of all non-zero zero-divisors of $A.$ Two different vertices $u$ and $v$ are connected by an edge precisely when the ideal formed by the annihilator of their product $uv$ is essential in $A.$ This paper examines the minimal embeddings of the line graph of the essential graph of $A$ into orientable surfaces as well as non-orientable surfaces. Our results include a complete classification of finite commutative rings for which the line graphs of their essential graphs is planar, outerplanar or have genus or crosscap number at most two. We also characterize all such non-local rings for which the line graph of their zero-divisor graph is outerplanar.
The symmetric groups $S_n, n\geq 4$, and finite non-abelian simple groups are not embeddable in any Riordan group
We prove that the symmetric group of degree greater than three cannot be embedded into the Riordan group with coefficients in any commutative ring. We also prove the impossibility to embed finite non-abelian simple groups. As a closely related topic, we show why all truncated Riordan groups are solvable, in stark contrast to the unsolvability of the infinite-sized Riordan groups. Finally, we give an explicit embedding of the alternating group $A_4$ into the Lagrange subgroup with coefficients in a certain commutative ring, and prove that $A_4$ cannot be embedded into a substitution group, and hence, a Nottingham group.
Toroidal involutory Cayley graphs
Suppose that $R$ is a finite commutative ring with identity. The involutory Cayley graph $\G(R)$ of $R$ is the graph whose vertices are the elements of $R$, and two distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent if and only if $(x-y)^2=1$. In this paper, we classify all rings $R$ for which $\G(R)$ is a toroidal graph, that is, a graph that can be embedded on a torus.

Let $R$ be a commutative ring with identity. The involutory Cayley graph $\mathcal{G}(R)$ of $R$ is defined as the graph whose vertex set is the set of elements of $R$, where two vertices $a$ and $b$ are adjacent exactly when $(a-b)^2=1$. This paper investigates the properties of involutory Cayley graphs associated with polynomial and power series rings over the ring of integers modulo $n$.
Rook sums in the symmetric group algebra
Let $\mathcal{A}$ be the group algebra $\mathbf{k}[S_n]$ of the $n$-th symmetric group $S_n$ over a commutative ring $\mathbf{k}$. For any two subsets $A$ and $B$ of $[n]$, we define the elements \[ \nabla_{B,A}:=\sum_{\substack{w\in S_n;\\w\left( A\right) =B}} w \qquad \text{and} \qquad \widetilde{\nabla}_{B,A}:=\sum_{\substack{w\in S_n;\\w\left( A\right) \subseteq B}}w \] of $\mathcal{A}$. We study these elements, showing in particular that their minimal polynomials factor into linear factors (with integer coefficients). We express the product $\nabla_{D,C}\nabla_{B,A}$ as a $\mathbb{Z}$-linear combination of $\nabla_{U,V}$'s.
More generally, for any two set compositions (i.e., ordered set partitions) $\mathbf{A}$ and $\mathbf{B}$ of $\left\{ 1,2,\ldots,n\right\} $, we define $\nabla_{\mathbf{B},\mathbf{A}}\in\mathcal{A}$ to be the sum of all permutations $w\in S_n$ that send each block of $\mathbf{A}$ to the corresponding block of $\mathbf{B}$. This generalizes $\nabla_{B,A}$. The factorization property of minimal polynomials does not extend to the $\nabla_{\mathbf{B},\mathbf{A}}$, but we describe the ideal spanned by the $\nabla_{\mathbf{B},\mathbf{A}}$ and a further ideal complementary to it. These two ideals have a "mutually annihilative" relationship, are free as $\mathbf{k}$-modules, and appear as annihilators of tensor product $S_n$-representations; they are also closely related to Murphy's cellular bases, Specht modules, pattern-avoiding permutations and even some algebras appearing in quantum information theory.

This paper introduces a new approach to associating a graph with a commutative ring. Let $R$ be a commutative ring with identity. The unit-zero divisor graph of a commutative ring $R$, denoted by $G_{UZ}(R)$, offers a novel framework for exploring the interaction between ring and graph structures. The vertex set of $G_{UZ}(R)$ consists of all elements of the ring $R$. Two distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ in $G_{UZ}(R)$ are adjacent if and only if $x + y$ is a unit and $xy$ is a zero divisor in $R$. This dual adjacency condition gives rise to a graph that reflects both the additive and multiplicative behavior of the ring. This study investigates key structural properties of $G_{UZ}(R)$, including regularity, bipartiteness, planarity, and Hamiltonicity. In addition, it examines how these graph features are influenced by the algebraic structure of the ring, particularly the group of units, the set of zero divisors, ideals, and the Jacobson radical.

Zero-divisor graphs of commutative rings are well-represented in the literature. In this paper, we consider dominating sets, total dominating sets, domination numbers and total domination numbers of zero-divisor graphs. We determine the domination and total domination numbers of zero-divisor graphs are equal for all zero-divisor graphs of commutative rings except for $\mathbb{Z}_2 \times D$ in which $D$ is a domain. In this case, $γ(Γ(\mathbb{Z}_2 \times D)) = 1$ and $γ_t(Γ(\mathbb{Z}_2 \times D)) = 2$.

Let $R$ be a commutative ring. In \cite{KK_2025(1)}, the authors introduced $R$-weighted graphs as a tool for studying commutators in groups and Lie algebras. These graphs are equivalent to a system of balance equations, and their consistent labelings correspond to solutions of this system of balance equations. In this article, we apply these ideas in the case when $R$ is a field $F$. We focus on $F$-weighted graphs with four vertices and establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of consistent labelings on them. A notion of defects in weighted graphs is introduced for this purpose. We prove that defects in weighted graphs prevent Lie brackets from being surjective onto its derived Lie subalgebra. Similarly, these defects prevent certain elements in the commutator subgroup of a nilpotent group of class $2$ from being a commutator. As an application of our techniques, we prove that for a Lie algebra $L$ whose dimension over $F$ is at most countable and the dimension of its derived subalgebra $L'$ is at most $3$, the Lie bracket is surjective onto $L'$. We provide a counterexample when $\dim(L') = 4$. We also characterize commutators among $L$' for the Lie algebras $L$ with $\dim(L/Z(L))\leq 4$.
$R$-weighted graphs and commutators
In this article, we introduce balance equations over commutative rings $R$ and associate $R$-weighted graphs to them so that solving balance equations corresponds to a consistent labeling of vertices of the associated graph. Our primary focus is the case when $R$ is a commutative local ring whose residue field contains at least three elements. In this case, we provide explicit solutions of balance equations. As an application, letting $R$ to be the ring of $p$-adic integers, we examine some necessary and sufficient conditions for a $p$-group of nilpotency class $2$ to have its set of commutators coincide with its commutator subgroup. We also apply our results to study the surjectivity of the Lie bracket in Lie algebras, without any restriction on their dimension and the underlined field.
Extending Generalized Splines Over The Integers
Let $R$ be a commutative ring with identity and $G$ a graph. \emph{An extending generalized spline} on $G$ is a vertex labeling $f \in \prod_{v} M_v$ such that at each edge $e=uv$ there is an $R$-module $M_{uv}$ together with homomorphisms $ \varphi_u : M_u \to M_{uv}$ and $ \varphi_v : M_v \to M_{uv}$ for each vertex $u, v$ incident to the edge $e$ so that $\varphi_u(f_u)=\varphi_v(f_v).$ Extending generalized splines are further generalizations for generalized splines. They can also be considered as generalized splines over modules.
The main goal of this paper is to study the $R$-module structure of extending generalized splines. We concentrate on two following questions: which of the results for general splines extend to generalized splines over modules and if there is an algorithm or an explicit formula for special basis classes, called a flow up basis, for generalized splines over modules. We show that certain results concerning generalized splines can be extended to a setting where each vertex $v$ is assigned a module $M_v=m_v\mathbb Z$. We provide an algorithm to construct a special basis for generalized splines over these modules on paths. Additionally, we introduce a new technique to construct a flow-up basis on arbitrary graphs using the idea of an algorithm on paths.
Sombor index and eigenvalues of weakly zero-divisor graph of commutative rings
The weakly zero-divisor graph $WΓ(R)$ of a commutative ring $R$ is the simple undirected graph whose vertices are nonzero zero-divisors of $R$ and two distinct vertices $x$, $y$ are adjacent if and only if there exist $w\in {\rm ann}(x)$ and $ z\in {\rm ann}(y)$ such that $wz =0$. In this paper, we determine the Sombor index for the weakly zero-divisor graph of the integers modulo ring $\mathbb{Z}_n$. Furthermore, we investigate the Sombor spectrum and establish bounds for the Sombor energy of the weakly zero-divisor graph of $\mathbb{Z}_n$.
On zero-divisor graph of the ring of Gaussian integers modulo $2^n$
For a commutative ring $R$, the zero-divisor graph of $R$ is a simple graph with the vertex set as the set of all zero-divisors of $R$ and two distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent if and only if $xy = 0$. This article attempts to predict the structure of the zero-divisor graph of the ring of Gaussian integers modulo $2$ to the power $n$ and determine the size, chromatic number, clique number, independence number, and matching through associate classes of divisors of $2^n$ in $\mathbb{Z}_{2^n}[i]$. In addition, a few topological indices of the corresponding zero-divisor graph, are obtained.

Gcd-graphs represent an interesting and historically important class of integral graphs. Since the pioneering work of Klotz and Sander, numerous incarnations of these graphs have been explored in the literature. In this article, we define and establish some foundational properties of gcd-graphs defined over a general finite commutative ring. In particular, we investigate the connectivity and diameter of these graphs. Additionally, when the ring is a finite symmetric $\mathbb{Z}/n$-algebra, we give an explicit description of their spectrum using the theory of Ramanujan sums that gives a unified treatment of various results in the literature.

This paper focuses on periodicity and perfect state transfer of Grover walks on two well-known families of Cayley graphs, namely, the unitary Cayley graphs and the quadratic unitary Cayley graphs. Let $R$ be a finite commutative ring. The unitary Cayley graph $G_R$ has vertex set $R$, where two vertices $u$ and $v$ are adjacent if $u-v$ is a unit in $R$. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition for the periodicity of the Cayley graph $G_R$. We also completely determine the rings $R$ for which $G_R$ exhibits perfect state transfer. The quadratic unitary Cayley graph $\mathcal{G}_R$ has vertex set $R$, where two vertices $u$ and $v$ are adjacent if $u-v$ or $v-u$ is a square of some units in $R$. It is well known that any finite commutative ring $R$ can be expressed as $R_1\times\cdots\times R_s$, where each $R_i$ is a local ring with maximal ideal $M_i$ for $i\in\{1,...,s\}$. We characterize periodicity and perfect state transfer on $\mathcal{G}_R$ under the condition that $|R_i|/|M_i|\equiv 1 \pmod 4$ for $i\in\{1,...,s\}$. Also, we characterize periodicity and perfect state transfer on $\mathcal{G}_R$, where $R$ can be expressed as $R_0\times\cdots\times R_s$ such that $|R_0|/|M_0|\equiv3\pmod 4$, and $|R_i|/|M_i|\equiv1\pmod4$ for $i\in\{1,..., s\}$, where $R_i$ is a local ring with maximal ideal $M_i$ for $i\in\{0,...,s\}$.

In this paper, we investigate the existence of quantum fractional revival in unitary Cayley graphs over finite commutative rings with identity. We characterize all finite local rings that permit quantum fractional revival in their unitary Cayley graphs. Additionally, we present results for the case of finite commutative rings, as they can be expressed as products of finite local rings.

Let $R$ be a ring (not necessarily a commutative ring) with identity. The clean graph $Cl(R)$ of a ring $R$ is a graph with vertices in the form of an ordered pair $(e,u)$, where $e$ is an idempotent and $u$ is a unit of ring $R$, respectively. Two distinct vertices $(e,u)$ and $(f,v)$ are adjacent in $Cl(R)$ if and only if $ef=fe=0$ or $uv=vu=1$. In this study, we considered the induced subgraph $Cl_2(R)$ of $Cl(R)$. We determined the Wiener index of $Cl_2(R)$, and we showed $Cl_2(R)$ has a perfect matching. In addition, we determined the matching number of $Cl_2(R)$ if $|U(R)|$ is not even.
Roman domination number of zero-divisor graphs over commutative rings
For a graph $G= (V, E)$, a Roman dominating function is a map $f : V \rightarrow \{0, 1, 2\}$ satisfies the property that if $f(v) = 0$, then $v$ must have adjacent to at least one vertex $u$ such that $f(u)= 2$. The weight of a Roman dominating function $f$ is the value $f(V)= Σ_{u \in V} f(u)$, and the minimum weight of a Roman dominating function on $G$ is called the Roman domination number of $G$, denoted by $γ_R(G)$. The main focus of this paper is to study the Roman domination number of zero-divisor graph $Γ(R)$ and find the bounds of the Roman domination number of $T(Γ(R))$.

The annihilator graph $AG(R)$ of the commutative ring $R$ is an undirected graph with vertex set as the set of all non-zero zero divisors of $R$, and two distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent if and only if $ann(xy) \neq ann(x) \cup ann(y)$. In this paper, we study the embedding of the line graph of $AG(R)$ into orientable or non-orientable surfaces. We completely characterize all the finite commutative rings such that the line graph of $AG(R)$ is of genus or crosscap at most two. We also obtain the inner vertex number of $L(AG(R))$. Finally, we classify all the finite rings such that the book thickness of $L(AG(R))$ is at most four.
