We give the first construction of explicit constant-degree lossless vertex expanders. Specifically, for any $\varepsilon > 0$ and sufficiently large $d$, we give an explicit construction of an infinite family of $d$-regular graphs where every small set $S$ of vertices has $(1-\varepsilon)d|S|$ neighbors (which implies $(1-2\varepsilon)d|S|$ unique-neighbors). Our results also extend naturally to construct biregular bipartite graphs of any constant imbalance, where small sets on each side have strong expansion guarantees. The graphs we construct admit a free group action, and hence realize new families of quantum LDPC codes of Lin and M. Hsieh with a linear time decoding algorithm.
Our construction is based on taking an appropriate product of a constant-sized lossless expander with a base graph constructed from Ramanujan Cayley cubical complexes.
Almost-perfect colorful matchings in three-edge-colored bipartite graphs
We prove that, for positive integers $n,a_1, a_2, a_3$ satisfying $a_1+a_2+a_3 = n-1$, it holds that any bipartite graph $G$ which is the union of three perfect matchings $M_1$, $M_2$, and $M_3$ on $2n$ vertices contains a matching $M$ such that $|M\cap M_i| =a_i$ for $i= 1,2,$ and $3$. The bound $n-1$ on the sum is best possible in general. Our result verifies the multiplicity extension of the Ryser-Brualdi-Stein Conjecture, proposed recently by Anastos, Fabian, Müyesser, and Szabó, for three colors.
The characterization of graphs with two trivial distance ideals
The distance ideals of graphs are algebraic invariants that generalize the Smith normal form (SNF) and the spectrum of several distance matrices associated with a graph. In general, distance ideals are not monotone under taking induced subgraphs. However, in [7] the characterizations of connected graphs with one trivial distance ideal over $\mathbb{Z}[X]$ and over $\mathbb{Q}[X]$ were obtained in terms of induced subgraphs, where $X$ is a set of variables indexed by the vertices. Later, in [3], the first attempt was made to characterize the family of connected graphs with at most two trivial distance ideals over $\mathbb{Z}[X]$. There, it was proven that these graphs are $\{ \mathcal {F},\textsf{odd-holes}_{7}\}$-free, where $\textsf{odd-holes}_{7}$ consists of the odd cycles of length at least seven and $\mathcal{F}$ is a set of sixteen graphs. Here, we give a characterization of the $\{\mathcal{F},\textsf{odd-holes}_{7}\}$-free graphs and prove that the $\{\mathcal{F},\textsf{odd-holes}_{7}\}$-free graphs are precisely the graphs with at most two trivial distance ideals over $\mathbb{Z}[X]$. As byproduct, we also find that the determinant of the distance matrix of a connected bipartite graph is even, this suggests that it is possible to extend, to connected bipartite graphs, the Graham-Pollak-Lovász celebrated formula $\det(D(T_{n+1}))=(-1)^nn2^{n-1}$, and the Hou-Woo result stating that $\text{SNF}(D(T_{n+1}))=\textsf{I}_2\oplus 2\textsf{I}_{n-2}\oplus (2n)$, for any tree $T_{n+1}$ with $n+1$ vertices. Finally, we also give the characterizations of graphs with at most two trivial distance ideals over $\mathbb{Q}[X]$, and the graphs with at most two trivial distance univariate ideals.
The Gray graph is pseudo 2-factor isomorphic

A graph is pseudo 2-factor isomorphic if all of its 2-factors have the same parity of number of cycles. Abreu et al. [J. Comb. Theory, Ser. B. 98 (2008) 432--442] conjectured that $K_{3,3}$, the Heawood graph and the Pappus graph are the only essentially 4-edge-connected pseudo 2-factor isomorphic cubic bipartite graphs. This conjecture was disproved by Goedgebeur [Discr. Appl. Math. 193 (2015) 57--60] who constructed a counterexample $\mathcal{G}$ (of girth 6) on 30 vertices. Using a computer search, he also showed that this is the only counterexample up to at least 40 vertices and that there are no counterexamples of girth greater than 6 up to at least 48 vertices.
In this manuscript, we show that the Gray graph -- which has 54 vertices and girth 8 -- is also a counterexample to the pseudo 2-factor isomorphic graph conjecture. Next to the graph $\mathcal{G}$, this is the only other known counterexample. Using a computer search, we show that there are no smaller counterexamples of girth 8 and show that there are no other counterexamples up to at least 42 vertices of any girth. Moreover, we also verified that there are no further counterexamples among the known censuses of symmetrical graphs.
Recall that a graph is 2-factor Hamiltonian if all of its 2-factors are Hamiltonian cycles. As a by-product of the computer searches performed for this paper, we have verified that the $2$-factor Hamiltonian conjecture of Funk et al. [J. Comb. Theory, Ser. B. 87(1) (2003) 138--144], which is still open, holds for cubic bipartite graphs of girth at least 8 up to 52 vertices, and up to 42 vertices for any girth.
On the Asymptotics of the Connectivity Probability of Random Bipartite Graphs
In this paper, we analyze the exact asymptotic behavior of the connectivity probability in a random binomial bipartite graph $G(n,m,p)$ under various regimes of the edge probability $p=p(n)$. To determine this probability, a method based on the analysis of inhomogeneous random walks is proposed.
Homological invariants of edge ideals of weighted oriented graphs
We determine all possible triples of depth, dimension, and regularity of edge ideals of weighted oriented graphs with a fixed number of vertices. Also, we compute all the possible Betti table sizes of edge ideals of weighted oriented trees and bipartite~graphs with a fixed number of vertices.

For a positive integer $d$, a $d$-transversal set of a graph $G$ is an edge subset $T\subseteq E(G)$ such that $|T\cap M|\geq d$ for every maximum matching $M$ of $G$. The $d$-transversal number of $G$, denoted by $τ_d(G)$, is the minimum cardinality of a $d$-transversal set in $G$. It is NP-complete to determine the $d$-transversal number of a bipartite graph for any fixed $d\geq 1$. Ries et al. (Discrete Math. 310 (2010) 132-146) established the $d$-transversal number of rectangular grids $P_m\square P_n$. In this paper, we consider cylindrical grids $P_m\square C_n$ and toroidal grids $C_m\square C_n$. We derive explicit expressions for the $d$-transversal numbers of $P_m\square C_n$ for $m\geq 1$ and even $n\geq 4$, or even $m\geq 2$ and $n=3$, and of $C_m\square C_n$ with even order, for $1\leq d\leq \frac{mn}{2}$. For the other cases we obtain explicit expressions or bounds for their $d$-transversal numbers.

Given a graph $G$, we form a random subgraph $G_p$ by including each edge of $G$ independently with probability $p$. We provide an asymptotic expansion of the expected number of independent sets in random subgraphs of regular bipartite graphs satisfying certain vertex-isoperimetric properties, extending the work of Kronenberg and Spinka on the percolated hypercube. Combining graph containers with the cluster expansion from statistical physics, we give an expansion of the partition function of the Ising model in certain range of the parameters. Among other applications, we obtain results for even tori of growing side-length. As a tool, we prove a refined container lemma for the Ising model, which mildly improves recent bounds of Jenssen, Malekshahian, and Park.
On a Characterization of Spartan Graphs
The eternal vertex cover game is played between an attacker and a defender on an undirected graph $G$. The defender identifies $k$ vertices to position guards on to begin with. The attacker, on their turn, attacks an edge $e$, and the defender must move a guard along $e$ to defend the attack. The defender may move other guards as well, under the constraint that every guard moves at most once and to a neighboring vertex. The smallest number of guards required to defend attacks forever is called the eternal vertex cover number of $G$, denoted $evc(G)$.
For any graph $G$, $evc(G)$ is at least the vertex cover number of $G$, denoted $mvc(G)$. A graph is Spartan if $evc(G) = mvc(G)$. It is known that a bipartite graph is Spartan if and only if every edge belongs to a perfect matching. We show that the only König graphs that are Spartan are the bipartite Spartan graphs. We also give new lower bounds for $evc(G)$, generalizing a known lower bound based on cut vertices. We finally show a new matching-based characterization of all Spartan graphs.
Balanced colorings of Erdős-Rényi hypergraphs
An $r$-uniform hypergraph $H = (V, E)$ is $r$-partite if there exists a partition of the vertex set into $r$ parts such that each edge contains exactly one vertex from each part. We say an independent set in such a hypergraph is balanced if it contains an equal number of vertices from each partition. The balanced chromatic number of $H$ is the minimum value $q$ such that $H$ admits a proper $q$-coloring where each color class is a balanced independent set. In this note, we determine the asymptotic behavior of the balanced chromatic number for sparse $r$-uniform $r$-partite Erdős--Rényi hypergraphs. A key step in our proof is to show that any balanced colorable hypergraph of average degree $d$ admits a proper balanced coloring with $r(r-1)d + 1$ colors. This extends a result of Feige and Kogan on bipartite graphs to this more general setting.
The Alon-Tarsi Number of Cartesian product and Corona product of Hypercube Graph and Special Graphs
The \emph{Alon-Tarsi number} of a graph $G$ is the smallest $k$ so that there exists an orientation $D$ of $G$ with max outdegree $k-1$ satisfying the number of even Eulerian subgraphs different from the number of odd Eulerian subgraphs. In this paper, the Alon-Tarsi number of the $n$-cube is obtained according to its special properties, we obtain the Alon-Tarsi number of Cartesian product of some special bipartite graphs, and get the Alon-Tarsi number of Corona product of graphs. As corollaries, we get the Alon-Tarsi number of Cartesian product and Corona product of hypercube graph and special graphs.
On cycle covers of infinite bipartite graphs
Given a graph $G$ and a subset $X$ of vertices of $G$ with size at least two, we denote by $N^2_G(X)$ the set of vertices of $G$ that have at least two neighbors in $X$. We say that a bipartite graph $G$ with sides $A$ and $B$ satisfies the double Hall property if for every subset $X$ of vertices of $A$ with size at least 2, $\vert N^2_G(X)\vert \geq \vert X\vert$. Salia conjectured that if $G$ is a bipartite graph that satisfies the double Hall property, then there exists a cycle in $G$ that covers all vertices of $A$. In this work, we study this conjecture restricted to infinite graphs. For this, we use the definition of ends and infinite cycles. It is simple to see that Salia's conjecture is false for infinite graphs in general. Consequently, all our results are partial. Under certain hypothesis it is possible to obtain a collection of pairwise disjoint 2-regular subgraphs that covers $A$. We show that if side $B$ is locally finite and side $A$ is countable, then the conjecture is true. Furthermore, assuming the conjecture holds for finite graphs, we show that it holds for infinite graphs with a restriction on the degree of the vertices of $B$. This result is inspired by the result obtained by Barát, Grzesik, Jung, Nagy and Pálvölgyi for finite graphs. Finally, we also show that if Salia's conjecture holds for some cases of infinite graphs, then the conjecture about finite graphs presented by Lavrov and Vandenbussche is true.
Relationships between minimum rank problem parameters for cobipartite graphs

For a simple graph, the minimum rank problem is to determine the smallest rank among the symmetric matrices whose off-diagonal nonzero entries occur in positions corresponding to the edges of the graph. Bounds on this minimum rank (and on an equivalent value, the maximum nullity) are given by various graph parameters, most notably the zero forcing number and its variants. For a matrix, replacing each nonzero entry with the symbol \(\ast\) gives its zero-nonzero pattern. The associated minimum rank problem is to determine, given only this pattern, the smallest possible rank of the matrix. The most fundamental lower bound on this minimum rank is the triangle number of the pattern. A cobipartite graph is the complement of a bipartite graph; its vertices can be partitioned into two cliques. Such a graph corresponds to a zero-nonzero pattern in a natural way. Over an infinite field, the minimum rank of the graph and that of the pattern obey a simple relationship. We show that this same relationship is followed by the zero forcing number of the graph and the triangle number of the pattern. This has implications for the relationship between the two minimum rank problems. We also explore how, for cobipartite graphs, variants of the zero forcing number and other parameters important to the minimum rank problem are related, as well as how, for graphs in general, these parameters can be interpreted in terms of the zero-nonzero patterns of the symmetric matrices associated with the graph.
Optimal Erasure Codes and Codes on Graphs
We construct constant-sized ensembles of linear error-correcting codes over any fixed alphabet that can correct a given fraction of adversarial erasures at rates approaching the Singleton bound arbitrarily closely. We provide several applications of our results:
1. Explicit constructions of strong linear seeded symbol-fixing extractors and lossless condensers, over any fixed alphabet, with only a constant seed length and optimal output lengths;
2. A strongly explicit construction of erasure codes on bipartite graphs (more generally, linear codes on matrices of arbitrary dimensions) with optimal rate and erasure-correction trade-offs;
3. A strongly explicit construction of erasure codes on non-bipartite graphs (more generally, linear codes on symmetric square matrices) achieving improved rates;
4. A strongly explicit construction of linear nearly-MDS codes over constant-sized alphabets that can be encoded and decoded in quasi-linear time.
Stiffness matrices of graph blow-ups and the $d$-dimensional algebraic connectivity of complete bipartite graphs
The $d$-dimensional algebraic connectivity $a_d(G)$ of a graph $G=(V,E)$ is a quantitative measure of its $d$-dimensional rigidity, defined in terms of the eigenvalues of stiffness matrices associated with different embeddings of the graph into $\mathbb{R}^d$. For a function $a:V\to \mathbb{N}$, we denote by $G^{(a)}$ the $a$-blow-up of $G$, that is, the graph obtained from $G$ by replacing every vertex $v\in V$ with an independent set of size $a(v)$. We determine a relation between the stiffness matrix eigenvalues of $G^{(a)}$ and the eigenvalues of certain weighted stiffness matrices associated with the original graph $G$. This resolves, as a special case, a conjecture of Lew, Nevo, Peled and Raz on the stiffness eigenvalues of balanced blow-ups of the complete graph.
As an application, we obtain a lower bound on the $d$-dimensional algebraic connectivity of complete bipartite graphs. More precisely, we prove the following: Let $K_{n,m}$ be the complete bipartite graph with sides of size $n$ and $m$ respectively. Then, for every $d\ge 1$ there exists $c_d>0$ such that, for all $n,m\ge d+1$ with $n+m\ge \binom{d+2}{2}$, $a_d(K_{n,m})\ge c_d\cdot \min\{n,m\}$. This bound is tight up to the multiplicative constant. In the special case $d=2$, $n=m=3$, we obtain the improved bound $a_2(K_{3,3})\ge 2(1-λ)$, where $λ\approx 0.6903845$ is the unique positive real root of the polynomial $176 x^4-200 x^3+47 x^2+18 x-9$, which we conjecture to be tight.
Counting independent sets in expanding bipartite regular graphs
In this paper we provide an asymptotic expansion for the number of independent sets in a general class of regular, bipartite graphs satisfying some vertex-expansion properties, extending results of Jenssen and Perkins on the hypercube and strengthening results of Jenssen, Perkins and Potukuchi. More precisely, we give an expansion of the independence polynomial of such graphs using a polymer model and the cluster expansion. In addition to the number of independent sets, our results yields information on the typical structure of (weighted) independent sets in such graphs. The class of graphs we consider covers well-studied cases like the hypercube or the middle layers graph, and we show further that it includes any Cartesian product of bipartite, regular base graphs of bounded size. To this end, we prove strong bounds on the vertex expansion of bipartite and regular Cartesian product graphs, which might be of independent interest.

A theta graph $θ_{r,p,q}$ is the graph obtained by connecting two distinct vertices with three internally disjoint paths of length $r,p,q$, where $q\geq p\geq r\geq1$ and $p\geq2$. A graph is $θ_{r,p,q}$-free if it does not contain $θ_{r,p,q}$ as a subgraph. The maximum spectral radius of $θ_{1,p,q}$-free graphs with given size has been determined for any $q\geq p\geq2$. Zhai, Lin and Shu [Spectral extrema of graphs with fixed size: cycles and complete bipartite graphs, European J. Combin. 95 (2021) 103322] characterized the extremal graph with the maximum spectral radius of $θ_{2,2,2}$-free graphs having $m$ edges. In this paper, we consider the maximum spectral radius of $θ_{2,2,3}$-free graphs with size $m$ and characterize the extremal graph.
A problem of Erdős and Hajnal on paths with equal-degree endpoints

We address a problem posed by Erdős and Hajnal in 1991, proving that for all $n \geq 600$, every $(2n+1)$-vertex graph with at least $n^2 + n + 1$ edges contains two vertices of equal degree connected by a path of length three. The complete bipartite graph $K_{n,n+1}$ demonstrates that this edge bound is sharp. We further establish an analogous result for graphs with even order and investigate several related extremal problems.
New constructions of unbalanced $\{C_4,θ_{3, t}\}$-free bipartite graphs
In 1979, Erdős conjectured that if $m = O(n^{2/3})$, then $ex(n, m, \{C_4, C_6 \}) = O(n)$. This conjecture was disproven by several papers and the current best-known bounds for this problem are
$$
c_1n^{1 + \frac{1}{15}} \leq ex(n, n^{2/3}, \{C_4, C_6\}) \leq c_2n^{1 + 1/9}
$$
for some constants $c_1, c_2$. A consequence of our work here proves that
$$
ex(n, n^{2/3}, \{ C_4, θ_{3, 4} \}) = Θ(n^{1 + 1/9}).
$$
More generally, for each integer $t \geq 2$, we establish that
$$
ex(n, n^{\frac{t+2}{2t+1}}, \{ C_4, θ_{3, t} \}) = Θ(n^{1 + \frac{1}{2t+1}})
$$
by demonstrating that subsets of points $S \subseteq \text{PG}(n,q)$ for which no $t+1$ points lie on a line give rise to $\{ C_4, θ_{3, t} \}$-free graphs, where PG$(n,q)$ is the projective space of dimension $n$ over the finite field of $q$ elements.
Determining some graph joins by the signless Laplacian spectrum

A graph is determined by its signless Laplacian spectrum if there is no other non-isomorphic graph sharing the same signless Laplacian spectrum. Let $C_l$, $P_l$, $K_l$ and $K_{s,l-s}$ be the cycle, the path, the complete graph and the complete bipartite graph with $l$ vertices, respectively. We prove that $$G\cong K_1\vee (C_{l_1}\cup C_{l_2}\cup\cdots \cup C_{l_t}\cup sK_1),$$ with $s\ge 0, t\ge 1, n\geq 22$, is determined by the signless Laplacian spectrum if and only if either $s=0$ or $s\ge 1$ and $l_i\ne 3$ holds for all $1\leq i\leq t$, where $n$ is the order of $G$, and $\cup$ and $\vee$ stand for the disjoint union and the join of two graphs, respectively. Moreover, for $s\ge 1$ and $l_t=3$, $K_1\vee (K_{1,3}\cup C_{l_1}\cup C_{l_2}\cup\cdots \cup C_{l_{t-1}}\cup (s-1)K_1)$ is fixed as a graph sharing the signless Laplacian spectrum with $G$. This contribution extends some recently published results.
