Finite-n Estimate of Dedekind Numbers by Layer-Ratio Monte Carlo
Published in Mathematics 14(18), 3300 (2026) • View Publication • BIB
Dedekind's problem counts monotone Boolean functions, equivalently downsets of a Boolean lattice. We recast this enumeration as a finite layer-ratio reconstruction problem for the Whitney numbers of the ranked ideal lattice. An exact adjacent-layer double count expresses each layer ratio through local averages of the number of addable elements and the number of removable elements. Reversible fixed-layer Markov chains estimate these averages and hence estimate the Dedekind number $M(n)$. Backtests at $M(8)$ and $M(9)$ calibrate seed-level variability under the fixed protocol and measure the observed Monte Carlo budget scaling. The resulting estimate probes the Whitney-number sequence of the ideal lattice. Although these rows have previously been described empirically as unimodal, the high-precision $n=9$ estimate has a shallow two-shoulder feature around the central rank, contrary to that empirical description; $n=11$ and $n=13$ center-window estimates show a larger-contrast analogous pattern. The protocol estimate for $M(10)$ is \[ \widehat M(10)=(8.9360\pm0.0010)\times 10^{78}, \] where the displayed uncertainty is the budget-based forecast scale from the cross-$n$ scaling law under the production budget.

Finiteness and exponential growth of full graph $p$-spectra
We prove that the full spectrum of the graph $p$-Laplacian is finite for every finite graph and every real $p>1$. This resolves the problem of finiteness of the full graph spectrum posed by Amghibech (2003). More generally, for signed weighted graph $p$-Schrödinger operators with arbitrary real potentials, we obtain bounds in terms of the numbers of vertices and positive-weight edges, uniform in all coefficients and in $p$. On $n$ vertices with $m$ positive-weight edges, the logarithms of the spectral cardinality and of the total number of connected components of the normalised eigenvector sets are $O((n+m)^2)$; the sum over the full spectrum of their rational Betti numbers is at most $\exp(C(n+m)^2)$ for an absolute constant $C$. These topological bounds extend to homogeneous eigenproblems built from arbitrary finite families of linear forms, including generalised $p$-eigenvalue problems for matrix pairs. For the uniformly weighted $K_n$ and $p\ne2$, we identify the nonconstant eigenlines with the barycentres of the coordinate-hyperplane cell decomposition of $\mathbb RP^{n-2}$ and determine their local Morse data on either side of $p=2$. A renormalised logarithmic limit describes the transition at $p=2$. Positive integer weights then separate these critical values, giving at least $(3^n-2^{n+1}+3)/2$ distinct spectral values for every fixed $p\ne2$ and every $n\geq2$. By contrast, the maximal spectral cardinality at $p=2$ is $n$; at $p=4$, the maximal spectral cardinalities in the unsigned and general classes both have exponential growth rate exactly $3$. For $n\geq3$ the same examples resolve Amghibech's extremal question. The proof combines o-minimal and Pfaffian geometry with projective $L^p$-duality, Morse theory, critical groups, and tensor eigenvalue bounds.

Charge functions for all dimensional partitions
Published in SciPost Phys. 21, 079 (2026) • View Publication • BIB
The charge functions for n-dimensional partitions are known for n=2,3,4 in the literature. In a recent work, we gave the expression for arbitrary odd dimension; here we further conjecture a formula for all even-dimensional cases. This conjecture is proved rigorously for 6D, and numerically verified for 8D.

Non-Robustness of the Zero-Temperature-Limit Gibbs Measures to Perturbations of the Potential
The robustness of properties of a statistical physics model to slight perturbations in the exact local interactions of the model is a very relevant philosophical question, considering real-life measurements on which we base some models can only ever reach a finite precision. In this article, we will discuss this topic in a formal mathematical setting, and notably exhibit a family of models for which the low-temperature behaviour is highly non-robust.

Permutons, meanders, and SLE-decorated Liouville quantum gravity
Published in J. Eur. Math. Soc. 28 (2026), no. 11, pp. 4893-4949 • View Publication • BIB
We study a class of random permutons which can be constructed from a pair of space-filling Schramm-Loewner evolution (SLE) curves on a Liouville quantum gravity (LQG) surface. This class includes the skew Brownian permutons introduced by Borga (2021), which describe the scaling limit of various types of random pattern-avoiding permutations. Another interesting permuton in our class is the meandric permuton, which corresponds to two independent SLE$_8$ curves on a $γ$-LQG surface with $γ= \sqrt{\frac13 \left( 17 - \sqrt{145} \right)}$. Building on work by Di Francesco, Golinelli, and Guitter (2000), we conjecture that the meandric permuton describes the scaling limit of uniform meandric permutations, i.e., the permutations induced by a simple loop in the plane which crosses a line a specified number of times. We show that for any sequence of random permutations which converges to one of the above random permutons, the length of the longest increasing subsequence is sublinear. This proves that the length of the longest increasing subsequence is sublinear for Baxter, strong-Baxter, and semi-Baxter permutations and leads to the conjecture that the same is true for meandric permutations. We also prove that the closed support of each of the random permutons in our class has Hausdorff dimension one. Finally, we prove a re-rooting invariance property for the meandric permuton and write down a formula for its expected pattern densities in terms of LQG correlation functions (which are known explicitly) and the probability that an SLE$_8$ hits a given set of points in numerical order (which is not known explicitly). We conclude with a list of open problems.
Counting mobiles by integrable systems
Published in Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré Comb. Phys. Interact. 13 (2026), no 3, pp. 505-577 • View Publication • BIB
Mobiles are a particular class of decorated plane trees which serve as codings for planar maps. Here we address the question of enumerating mobiles in their most general flavor, in correspondence with planar Eulerian (i.e., bicolored) maps. We show that the generating functions for such mobiles satisfy a number of recursive equations which lie in the field of integrable systems, leading us to explicit expressions for these generating functions as ratios of particular determinants. In particular we recover known results for mobiles associated with uncolored maps and prove some conjectured formulas for the generating functions of mobiles associated with $p$-constellations.

On the geometry of uniform meandric systems
Published in Communications in Mathematical Physics, vol. 404, no. 1, 2023, pp. 439-494 • View Publication • BIB
A meandric system of size $n$ is the set of loops formed from two arc diagrams (non-crossing perfect matchings) on $\{1,\dots,2n\}$, one drawn above the real line and the other below the real line. A uniform random meandric system can be viewed as a random planar map decorated by a Hamiltonian path (corresponding to the real line) and a collection of loops (formed by the arcs). Based on physics heuristics and numerical evidence, we conjecture that the scaling limit of this decorated random planar map is given by an independent triple consisting of a Liouville quantum gravity (LQG) sphere with parameter $γ=\sqrt 2$, a Schramm-Loewner evolution (SLE) curve with parameter $κ=8$, and a conformal loop ensemble (CLE) with parameter $κ=6$. We prove several rigorous results which are consistent with this conjecture. In particular, a uniform meandric system admits loops of nearly macroscopic graph-distance diameter with high probability. Furthermore, a.s., the uniform infinite meandric system with boundary has no infinite path. But, a.s., its boundary-modified version has a unique infinite path whose scaling limit is conjectured to be chordal SLE$_6$.

Characterisation of the Set of Ground States of Uniformly Chaotic Finite-Range Lattice Models
Published • View Publication • BIB
Chaotic dependence on temperature refers to the phenomenon of divergence of Gibbs measures as the temperature approaches a certain value. Models with chaotic behaviour near zero temperature have multiple ground states, none of which are stable. We study the class of uniformly chaotic models, that is, those in which, as the temperature goes to zero, every choice of Gibbs measures accumulates on the entire set of ground states. We characterise the possible sets of ground states of uniformly chaotic finite-range models up to computable homeomorphisms. Namely, we show that the set of ground states of every model with finite-range and rational-valued interactions is topologically closed and connected, and belongs to the class $Π_2$ of the arithmetical hierarchy. Conversely, every $Π_2$-computable, topologically closed and connected set of probability measures can be encoded (via a computable homeomorphism) as the set of ground states of a uniformly chaotic two-dimensional model with finite-range rational-valued interactions.

Baxter permuton and Liouville quantum gravity
Published in Probability Theory and Related Fields, vol. 187, no. 3-4, 2023, pp. 869-941 • View Publication • BIB
The Baxter permuton is a random probability measure on the unit square which describes the scaling limit of uniform Baxter permutations. We find an explict formula for the expectation of the Baxter permuton, i.e.\ the density of its intensity measure. This answers a question of Dokos and Pak (2014). We also prove that all pattern densities of the Baxter permuton are strictly positive, distinguishing it from other permutons arising as scaling limits of pattern-avoiding permutations. Our proofs rely on a recent connection between the Baxter permuton and Liouville quantum gravity (LQG) coupled with the Schramm-Loewner evolution (SLE). The method works equally well for a two-parameter generalization of the Baxter permuton recently introduced by the first author, except that the density is not as explicit. This new family of permutons, called \emph{skew Brownian permuton}, describes the scaling limit of a number of random constrained permutations. We finally observe that in the LQG/SLE framework, the expected proportion of inversions in a skew Brownian permuton equals $\frac{π-2θ}{2π}$ where $θ$ is the so-called imaginary geometry angle between a certain pair of SLE curves.

Eulerian triangulations: two-point function and hull perimeter statistics
Published in Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré Comb. Phys. Interact. 6 (2019), no. 1, pp. 1-42 • View Publication • BIB
We present a new derivation of the distance-dependent two-point function for planar Eulerian triangulations and give expressions for more refined generating functions where we also control hull perimeters. These results are obtained in the framework of a new recursion relation for slice generating functions and extend similar results obtained recently for triangulations and quadrangulations. A number of explicit formulas are given for the statistics of hull perimeters in infinitely large random planar Eulerian triangulations.
