Comparability digraphs: An analogue of comparability graphs
Published • View Publication • BIB
Comparability graphs are a popular class of graphs. We introduce as the digraph analogue of comparability graphs the class of comparability digraphs. We show that many concepts such as implication classes and the knotting graph for a comparability graph can be naturally extended to a comparability digraph. We give a characterization of comparability digraphs in terms of their knotting graphs. Semicomplete comparability digraphs are a prototype of comparability digraphs. One instrumental technique for analyzing the structure of comparability graphs is the Triangle Lemma for graphs. We generalize the Triangle Lemma to semicomplete digraphs. Using the Triangle Lemma for semicomplete digraphs we prove that if an implication class of a semicomplete digraph contains no circuit of length 2 then it contains no circuit at all. We also use it to device an $\mathcal{O}(n^3)$ time recognition algorithm for semicomplete comparability digraphs where $n$ is the number of vertices of the input digraph. The correctness of the algorithm implies a characterization for semicomplete comparability digraphs, akin to that for comparability graphs.

The complexity of total edge domination and some related results on trees
Published • View Publication • BIB
For a graph $G = (V, E)$ with vertex set $V$ and edge set $E$, a subset $F$ of $E$ is called an $\emph{edge dominating set}$ (resp. a $\emph{total edge dominating set}$) if every edge in $E\backslash F$ (resp. in $E$) is adjacent to at least one edge in $F$, the minimum cardinality of an edge dominating set (resp. a total edge dominating set) of $G$ is the {\em edge domination number} (resp. {\em total edge domination number}) of $G$, denoted by $γ^{'}(G)$ (resp. $γ_t^{'}(G)$). In the present paper, we prove that the total edge domination problem is NP-complete for bipartite graphs with maximum degree 3. We also design a linear-time algorithm for solving this problem for trees. Finally, for a graph $G$, we give the inequality $γ^{'}(G)\leqslant γ^{'}_{t}(G)\leqslant 2γ^{'}(G)$ and characterize the trees $T$ which obtain the upper or lower bounds in the inequality.

The LexCycle on $\overline{P_{2}\cup P_{3}}$-free Cocomparability Graphs
Published in Discrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, vol. 22 no. 4, Graph Theory (December 28, 2020) dmtcs:5385 • View Publication • BIB
A graph $G$ is a cocomparability graph if there exists an acyclic transitive orientation of the edges of its complement graph $\overline{G}$. LBFS$^{+}$ is a variant of the generic Lexicographic Breadth First Search (LBFS), which uses a specific tie-breaking mechanism. Starting with some ordering $σ_{0}$ of $G$, let $\{σ_{i}\}_{i\geq 1}$ be the sequence of orderings such that $σ_{i}=$LBFS$^{+}(G, σ_{i-1})$. The LexCycle($G$) is defined as the maximum length of a cycle of vertex orderings of $G$ obtained via such a sequence of LBFS$^{+}$ sweeps. Dusart and Habib conjectured in 2017 that LexCycle($G$)=2 if $G$ is a cocomparability graph and proved it holds for interval graphs. In this paper, we show that LexCycle($G$)=2 if $G$ is a $\overline{P_{2}\cup P_{3}}$-free cocomparability graph, where a $\overline{P_{2}\cup P_{3}}$ is the graph whose complement is the disjoint union of $P_{2}$ and $P_{3}$. As corollaries, it's applicable for diamond-free cocomparability graphs, cocomparability graphs with girth at least 4, as well as interval graphs.
