Random algebraic constructions for extremal and Ramsey problems
Building on Bukh's random algebraic method, we develop a framework for extremal and Ramsey problems involving apex hypergraphs. If $\mathcal{H}$ is a $(d-1)$-partite $(d-1)$-uniform hypergraph with $S$ edges and $\mathcal{H}(t)$ is obtained by adjoining $t$ vertices with common link $\mathcal{H}$, we prove that $\operatorname{ex}(n,\mathcal{H}(t))=Ω_{\mathcal{H}}(n^{d-1/S})$ for $t>9^{S+o_d(S)}$, which is best possible when $\mathcal{H}$ is Sidorenko. Our framework also yields sharper sided Zarankiewicz bounds, quantitative generalized Tur'an bounds, and diagonal multicolor Ramsey constructions. For each fixed $s\geq 2$ and $K\geq 3$, we further prove $\operatorname{r}_K(\mathcal K_{s,t};\mathcal K_n) =Θ_{s,t,K}((n/\log n)^s)$ for $t>9^{s+o(s)}$, extending a theorem of Alon and Rödl from factorial to exponential $t$. The main ingredients are interpolation on $m$-independent varieties, control of the dependencies imposed by symmetry, and linear spaces of forms whose nonzero members remain regular after a common algebraic slice. Limited edge independence then gives the spectral and local-density estimates needed for the Ramsey application.
Geometry of multilinear varieties over infinite fields and its applications
Multilinear varieties, defined as the sets of rational points of varieties cut out by multilinear functions, were first introduced and studied by Gowers and Milićević[Proc. Edinb. Math. Soc., 2021] for finite $\mathbb{K}$. In this paper, we investigate multilinear varieties over infinite fields from a geometric perspective. We establish two fundamental results: a codimension formula for the Zariski closure of a multilinear variety, and the existence of a high-dimensional irreducible subvariety passing through any given $\mathbb{K}$-rational point. These results serve as a geometric foundation for analyzing various ranks of tensors and homogeneous polynomials, including partition rank, analytic rank, geometric rank, (collective) strength and (collective) Birch rank. As applications, we resolve the Adiprasito-Kazhdan-Ziegler conjecture [arXiv:2102.03659, 2021] on the stability of partition rank for perfect infinite fields. We thereby settle the stability conjecture for collective strength [Selecta Math., 2024], as well as the conjecture on the linear equivalence between strength and Birch rank [arXiv:2410.00248, 2024] for such fields. Moreover, our results immediately yield a strengthening of the theorems of Bik-Draisma-Snowden [arXiv:2401.02067, 2024] and Lampert-Snowden [arXiv:2406.18498, 2024], for multilinear varieties over infinite fields.
Turán problems for multilinear maps
This paper is concerned with Turán problems for (alternating) multilinear maps, with the aim of determining the maximum dimension $k$, called the isotropy index, for which every such map has an isotropic subspace of dimension $k$. We extend the formula for the isotropy index of alternating bilinear maps [Buhler, Gupta & Harris, J. Algebra, 1987] to alternating multilinear maps of arbitrary order over algebraically closed fields. In particular, this answers an open question posed in [Qiao, Discrete Anal., 2023]. Moreover, we prove that the same formula holds for sufficiently large finite fields. For multilinear maps, we establish a necessary and sufficient condition for the isotropy index to be at least two. Our results have three implications: (1) For algebraically closed fields, we determine the exact value of the Feldman--Propp number, whose lower bound has been known for over thirty years [Feldman & Propp, Adv. Math., 1992] but whose precise value had remained undetermined. (2) We establish the exact values of both the Turán number and the Gow--Quinlan number for alternating multilinear maps of arbitrary order over algebraically closed fields. Specifically, our result greatly extends the existing formula for the Gow--Quinlan number for alternating bilinear maps [Gow & Quinlan, Linear Multilinear Algebra, 2006]. (3) Bridging the lower bound for the Erdős box problem and tensor analytic rank, we show that there is an obstruction to improving the existing lower bound in [Conlon, Pohoata & Zakharov, Discrete Anal., 2021] via the multilinear method.
Upper Bounds for $s$-Distance Subspaces
As a generalization of equiangular lines, equiangular subspaces were first systematically studied by Balla, Dräxler, Keevash and Sudakov in 2017. In this paper, we extend their work to $s$-distance subspaces, i.e., to sets of $k$-dimensional subspaces in $\mathbb{R}^n$ whose pairwise distances take $s$ distinct values. We establish upper bounds on the maximum cardinality of such sets. In particular, our bounds generalize and improve results of Balla and Sudakov.
Isotropy and completeness indices of multilinear maps
Structures of multilinear maps are characterized by invariants. In this paper we introduce two invariants, named the isotropy index and the completeness index. These invariants capture the tensorial structure of the kernel of a multilinear map. We establish bounds on both indices in terms of the partition rank, geometric rank, analytic rank and height, and present three applications: 1) Using the completeness index as an interpolator, we establish upper bounds on the aforementioned tensor ranks in terms of the subrank. This settles an open problem raised by Kopparty, Moshkovitz and Zuiddam, and consequently answers a question of Derksen, Makam and Zuiddam. 2) We prove a Ramsey-type theorem for the two indices, generalizing a recent result of Qiao and confirming a conjecture of his. 3) By computing the completeness index, we obtain a polynomial-time probabilistic algorithm to estimate the height of a polynomial ideal.
Bounds for Geometric rank in Terms of Subrank
For tensors of fixed order, we establish three types of upper bounds for the geometric rank in terms of the subrank. Firstly, we prove that, under a mild condition on the characteristic of the base field, the geometric rank of a tensor is bounded by a function in its subrank in some field extension of bounded degree. Secondly, we show that, over any algebraically closed field, the geometric rank of a tensor is bounded by a function in its subrank. Lastly, we prove that, for any order three tensor over an arbitrary field, its geometric rank is bounded by a quadratic polynomial in its subrank. Our results have several immediate but interesting implications: (1) We answer an open question posed by Kopparty, Moshkovitz and Zuiddam concerning the relation between the subrank and the geometric rank; (2) For order three tensors, we generalize the Biaggi-Chang- Draisma-Rupniewski (resp. Derksen-Makam-Zuiddam) theorem on the growth rate of the border subrank (resp. subrank), in an optimal way; (3) For order three tensors, we generalize the Biaggi- Draisma-Eggleston theorem on the stability of the subrank, from the real field to an arbitrary field; (4) We confirm the open problem raised by Derksen, Makam and Zuiddam on the maximality of the gap between the subrank of the direct sum and the sum of subranks; (5) We derive, for the first time, a de-bordering result for the border subrank and upper bounds for the partition rank and analytic rank in terms of the subrank; (6) We reprove a gap result for the subrank.

This paper studies the stability of tensor ranks under field extensions. Our main contributions are fourfold: (1) We prove that the analytic rank is stable under field extensions. (2) We establish the equivalence between the partition rank vs. analytic rank conjecture and the stability conjecture for partition rank. We also prove that they are equivalent to other two important conjectures. (3) We resolve the Adiprasito-Kazhdan-Ziegler conjecture on the stability of the slice rank of linear subspaces under field extensions. (4) As an application of (1), we show that the geometric rank is equal to the analytic rank up to a constant factor.

We describe immanants as trivial modules of the symmetric group and show that any homogeneous polynomial of degree n on the space of n by n matrices preserved up to scalar by left and right action by diagonal matrices and conjugation by permutation matrices is a linear combination of immanants. we prove that the identity component of the stabilizer of any immanant (except determinant, permanent) is the expected one. We also prove that for n>5 the stabilizer of the immanant of any non-symmetric partition (except determinant and permanent) is again the expected one.
