Chromatic thresholds for pairs of graphs
The chromatic threshold of a graph $H$ is the minimum-degree density above which every $H$-free graph has bounded chromatic number. We study a two-color Ramsey analogue: for graphs $H_1$ and $H_2$, we ask for the minimum-degree density above which every graph that admits a red-blue edge-coloring with no red copy of $H_1$ and no blue copy of $H_2$ has bounded chromatic number. We give a complete answer when both $H_1$ and $H_2$ are 3-chromatic. The threshold takes exactly one of the five values \[ \frac23,\quad \frac57,\quad \frac34,\quad \frac79,\quad \frac45, \] and we characterize precisely which pairs $(H_1,H_2)$ give each value. The classification is determined by the ordinary chromatic thresholds of $H_1$ and $H_2$ and by their embeddability into a hierarchy of $C_5$-type Ramsey configurations.
Triangle packings in randomly perturbed graphs
The longstanding Nash-Williams conjecture asserts that every $K_3$-divisible graph $G$ with $δ(G)\ge 3n/4$ admits a triangle decomposition. In the random setting, Frankl and Rödl showed that, with high probability, $G(n,p)$ contains a triangle packing covering all but $o(n^2p)$ edges whenever $p\ge n^{-1/2+\varepsilon}$.
In this paper, we study near-perfect triangle packings in randomly perturbed graphs. We prove that for every $d>0$ and every $p>2d/(1+2d)$, if $G_d$ is a $dn$-regular graph on $n$ vertices, then with high probability the union $G_d\cup G(n,p)$ contains a triangle packing covering all but $o(n^2)$ edges. Moreover, this bound on $p$ is best possible for $0<d\le 1/2$, thereby determining the threshold in this range. A key ingredient in the proof is a new triangle-weighting lemma for weighted complete graphs.
A dichotomy for hypergraph Zarankiewicz problems on axis-parallel boxes
We study the Zarankiewicz problem for $r$-partite, $r$-uniform intersection hypergraphs arising from $r$ families of axis-parallel boxes in $\mathbb{R}^d$ with prescribed directions $F_1, \dots, F_r \subseteq \{1, \dots, d\}$. This extends the problems studied by Chan and Har-Peled on points and $d$-dimensional boxes in $\mathbb{R}^d$, corresponding to $(F_1,F_2)=(\varnothing,[d])$, as well as by Chan, Keller, and Smorodinsky on $r$ families of $d$-dimensional boxes, corresponding to $(F_1,\dots,F_r)=([d],\dots,[d])$.
Our main result establishes a sharp dichotomy for the Zarankiewicz number in this setting: it is either $Θ_r(tn^{r-1})$ or at least $Ω\bigl( tn^{r-1} \cdot \frac{\log n}{\log\log n} \bigr)$, depending only on a simple set-theoretic condition on $(F_1,\dots,F_r)$, which we call $2$-coherence. Informally, $2$-coherence captures whether the configuration contains an underlying two-dimensional incidence structure, which is precisely what gives rise to the extra polylogarithmic factor. Our proof proceeds via a sequence of reductions and a geometric slicing argument that reduces the problem to planar incidence bounds.
Vanishing orders and zero degree Turán densities
For integers $1\le \ell<k$, the $\ell$-degree Turán density $π_\ell(F)$ measures the minimum $\ell$-degree threshold that forces a copy of a fixed $k$-uniform hypergraph $F$, generalizing both the classical Turán density $π_1$ and the codegree Turán density $π_{k-1}$. Motivated by Erdős' characterization of $k$-graphs with zero Turán density, we study the structural implications of vanishing $\ell$-degree Turán density.
We prove for every uniformity $k\ge 3$ that if $π_2(F)=0$, then $F$ admits a $2$-vanishing order-a global vertex ordering under which all edges align canonically. This provides a higher-degree analogue of the classical fact that $π_1(F)=0$ forces $k$-partiteness, and identifies a structural obstruction to vanishing $2$-degree Turán density. As an application, we show that, unlike $π_1$, $π_2$ accumulates at $0$. For $3\le \ell\le k-1$, we also obtain weaker necessary conditions for $π_\ell(F)=0$.
The proof combines random geometric building blocks, a design-theoretic gluing scheme, and random sparsification to reconcile positive $2$-degree with local vanishing structure.
Chromatic thresholds for linear equations and recurrence
Motivated by classical problems in extremal graph theory, we study a chromatic analogue of Roth-type questions for linear equations over $\mathbb F_p$. Given a homogeneous equation $\mathcal L:\sum_{i=1}^k c_i x_i=0$ with $k\ge 3$, we study $\mathcal L$-solution-free sets $A\subseteq \mathbb F_p$ through the chromatic number of the Cayley graph $\mathsf{Cay}(\mathbb F_p,A)$. We introduce the \emph{chromatic threshold} $δ_χ(\mathcal L)$, the minimum density that guarantees bounded chromatic number of $\mathsf{Cay}(\mathbb F_p,A)$ among all $\mathcal L$-solution-free sets $A$, and determine exactly when $δ_χ(\mathcal L)=0$. We prove that $δ_χ(\mathcal L)=0$ if and only if $\mathcal L$ contains a zero-sum subcollection of at least three coefficients.
A key ingredient is a quantitative chromatic lower bound for Cayley graphs on $\mathbb Z_p^n$ generated by Hamming balls around the all-ones vector. This is obtained by introducing a new Kneser-type graph that admits a natural embedding into $\mathbb Z_p^n$, together with an equivariant Borsuk--Ulam type argument. As a consequence, we resolve a question of Griesmer. We further relate our classification to the hierarchy of measurable, topological, and Bohr recurrence. In particular, we show that every infinite discrete abelian group admits a set that is topological recurrent but not measurable recurrent, extending the seminal examples of Kříž and Ruzsa.
Colour diversity in spanning structures under Dirac-type conditions
Finding spanning structures with many distinct colours in properly edge-coloured graphs is a central theme in extremal combinatorics. A classical result of Andersen shows that every proper edge-colouring of the complete graph $K_n$ contains a Hamilton cycle with $n - O(n^{1/2})$ distinct colours. In the bipartite setting, the analogous question for perfect matchings is closely related to permutations in Latin squares. In this paper, we investigate how a Dirac-type minimum degree condition forces colour diversity in spanning structures. For every constant $1/2 < c \le 1$, we prove the following.
$\bullet$ Every properly edge-coloured graph $G$ on $n$ vertices with $δ(G)\ge cn$ contains a Hamilton cycle with at least $cn - O(n^{1/2})$ distinct colours.
$\bullet$ Every subset of an $n\times n$ Latin square with at least $cn$ cells in each row and each column contains a permutation with at least $cn - O(n^{2/3})$ distinct symbols.
Both bounds are best possible up to the error term.
Infinitely many groups exhibiting intermediate growth in maximal sum-free sets
Given an Abelian groups $G$, denote $μ(G)$ the size of its largest sum-free subset and $f_{\max}(G)$ the number of maximal sum-free sets in $G$. Confirming a prediction by Liu and Sharifzadeh, we prove that all even-order $G\ne \mathbb{Z}_2^k$ have exponentially fewer maximal sum-free sets than $\mathbb{Z}_2^k$, i.e. $f_{\max}(G) \leq 2^{(1/2-c)μ(G)}$, where $c > 10^{-64}$.
We construct an infinite family of Abelian groups $G$ with intermediate growth in the number of maximal sum-free sets, i.e., with $
2^{(\frac{1}{2}+c)μ(G)}\leq f_{\max}(G) \leq 3^{(\frac{1}{3}-c)μ(G)}
$, where $c=10^{-4}$. This disproves a conjecture of Liu and Sharifzadeh and also answers a question of Hassler and Treglown in the negative.
Furthermore, we determine for every even-order group $G$, the number of maximal distinct sum-free sets (where a distinct sum is $a+b= c$ with distinct $a,b,c$): it is $ 2^{(1/2+o(1))μ(G)}$
with the only exception being $G=\mathbb{Z}_2^k \oplus \mathbb{Z}_3$, when this function is $3^{(1/3+o(1))μ(G)}$, refuting a conjecture of Hassler and Treglown.
Our proofs rely on a container theorem due to Green and Ruzsa. Other key ingredient is a sharp upper bound we establish on the number of maximal independent sets in graphs with given matching number, which interpolates between the classical results of Moon and Moser, and Hujter and Tuza. A special case of our bound implies that every $n$-vertex graph with a perfect matching has at most $2^{n/2}$ maximal independent sets, resolving another conjecture of Hassler and Treglown.
Multicolor Erdős--Rogers Functions
In this paper, we study a multicolor variant of Erdős--Rogers functions. Let $f_{α_s; K_{i_1}, \cdots, K_{i_t}}(n)$ be the largest integer $m$ such that there is always an induced $K_s$-free subgraph of size $m$ in every $n$-vertex graph with a $t$-edge-coloring in which the edges with the $j$-th color induce no copy of $K_{i_j}$. We establish both upper and lower bounds for this multicolor version. Specifically, we show that $f_{α_5; K_3, K_3}(n) = n^{1/2+o(1)}$, $Ω(n^{5/11}) \le f_{α_5; K_3, K_3, K_3}(n) \le n^{1/2+o(1)}$, and $Ω(n^{20/61}) \le f_{α_5; K_3, K_3, K_3, K_3}(n) \le n^{1/3+o(1)}$.
An edge-spectral Erdős-Stone-Simonovits theorem and its stability
We study the extremal problem that relates the spectral radius $λ(G)$ of an $F$-free graph $G$ with its number of edges. Firstly, we prove that for any graph $F$ with chromatic number $χ(F)=r+1\ge 3$, if $G$ is an $F$-free graph on $m$ edges, then $λ^2(G)\le {(1-\frac{1}{r} + o(1))2m}$. This provides a unified extension of both the Erdős--Stone--Simonovits theorem and its vertex-spectral version due to Nikiforov, and confirms a conjecture proposed by Li, Liu and Feng.
We also establish the corresponding edge-spectral stability, showing that if $G$ is an $F$-free graph on $m$ edges with $λ^2(G)=(1- \frac{1}{r} - o(1))2m$, then $G$ differs from a complete bipartite graph by $o(m)$ edges when $r=2$, and $G$ differs from an $r$-partite Turán graph by $o(m)$ edges when $r\ge 3$. This extends the classical Erdős--Simonovits stability theorem.
As an application of our method, we improve a result of Zhai, Lin and Shu by showing that if $λ(G)>\sqrt{m}$, then there exist two vertices in $G$ that have at least $\frac{1}{2}\sqrt{m} - O(1)$ common neighbors. This bound is the best possible as witnessed by a random construction.

Spectral graph theory studies how the eigenvalues of a graph relate to the structural properties of a graph. In this paper, we solve three open problems in spectral extremal graph theory which generalize the classical Turán-type supersaturation results.
(a) We prove that every $m$-edge graph $G$ with the spectral radius $λ(G) > \sqrt{m}$ contains at least $\frac{1}{144} \sqrt{m}$ triangles sharing a common edge. This result confirms a conjecture of Nikiforov, and Li and Peng. Moreover, the bound is optimal up to a constant factor.
(b) Next, for $m$-edge graph $G$ with $λ(G) > \sqrt{(1-\frac{1}{r})2m}$, we show that it must contain $Ω_r (\sqrt{m})$ copies of $K_{r+1}$ sharing $r$ common vertices. This confirms a conjecture of Li, Liu and Feng and unifies a series of spectral extremal results on books and cliques. Moreover, we also show that such a graph $G$ contains $Ω_r (m^{\frac{r-1}{2}})$ copies of $K_{r+1}$. This extends a result of Ning and Zhai for counting triangles.
(c) We prove that every $m$-edge graph $G$ with $λ(G) > \sqrt{m}$ contains at least $(\frac{1}{8}-o(1)) m^2$ copies of 4-cycles, and we provide two constructions showing that the constant $\frac{1}{8}$ is the best possible. This result settles a problem raised by Ning and Zhai, and it gives the first asymptotics for counting degenerate bipartite graphs.
The key to our proof are two structural results we obtain for graphs with large spectral radii on their maximum degree and on existence of large structured subgraphs, which we believe to be of independent interest.

The chromatic threshold $δ_χ(H)$ of a graph $H$ is the infimum of $d>0$ such that the chromatic number of every $n$-vertex $H$-free graph with minimum degree at least $d n$ is bounded by a constant depending only on $H$ and $d$. Allen, B{ö}ttcher, Griffiths, Kohayakawa, and Morris determined the chromatic threshold for every $H$; in particular, they showed that if $χ(H)=r\ge 3$, then $δ_χ(H) \in\{\frac{r-3}{r-2},~\frac{2 r-5}{2 r-3},~\frac{r-2}{r-1}\}$. While the chromatic thresholds have been completely determined, rather surprisingly the structural behaviors of extremal graphs near the threshold remain unexplored.
In this paper, we establish the stability theorems for chromatic threshold problems. We prove that every $n$-vertex $H$-free graph $G$ with $δ(G)\ge (δ_χ(H)-o(1))n$ and $χ(G)=ω(1)$ must be structurally close to one of the extremal configurations. Furthermore, we give a stronger stability result when $H$ is a clique, showing that $G$ admits a partition into independent sets and a small subgraph on sublinear number of vertices. We show that this small subgraph has fractional chromatic number $2+o(1)$ and is homomorphic to a Kneser graph defined by subsets of a logarithmic size set; both these two bounds are best possible. This is the first stability result that captures the lower-order structural features of extremal graphs.
We also study two variations of chromatic thresholds. Replacing chromatic number by its fractional counterpart, we determine the fractional chromatic thresholds for all graphs. Another variation is the bounded-VC chromatic thresholds, which was introduced by Liu, Shangguan, Skokan, and Xu very recently. Extending work of Łuczak and Thomass{é} on the triangle case, we determine the bounded-VC chromatic thresholds for all cliques.
Induced rational exponents and bipartite subgraphs in $K_{s, s}$-free graphs
In this paper, we study a general phenomenon that many extremal results for bipartite graphs can be transferred to the induced setting when the host graph is $K_{s, s}$-free. As manifestations of this phenomenon, we prove that every rational $\frac{a}{b} \in (1, 2), \, a, b \in \mathbb{N}_+$, can be achieved as Turán exponent of a family of at most $2^a$ induced forbidden bipartite graphs, extending a result of Bukh and Conlon [JEMS 2018]. Our forbidden family is a subfamily of theirs which is substantially smaller. A key ingredient, which is yet another instance of this phenomenon, is supersaturation results for induced trees and cycles in $K_{s, s}$-free graphs. We also provide new evidence to a recent conjecture of Hunter, Milojević, Sudakov, and Tomon [JCTB 2025] by proving optimal bounds for the maximum size of $K_{s, s}$-free graphs without an induced copy of theta graphs or prism graphs, whose Turán exponents were determined by Conlon [BLMS 2019] and by Gao, Janzer, Liu, and Xu [IJM 2025+].
Set families: restricted distances via restricted intersections

Denote by $f_D(n)$ the maximum size of a set family $\mathcal{F}$ on $[n] \stackrel{\mbox{\normalfont\tiny def}}{=} \{1, \dots, n\}$ with distance set $D$. That is, $|A \bigtriangleup B| \in D$ holds for every pair of distinct sets $A, B \in \mathcal{F}$. Kleitman's celebrated discrete isodiametric inequality states that $f_D(n)$ is maximized at Hamming balls of radius $d/2$ when $D = \{1, \dots, d\}$. We study the generalization where $D$ is a set of arithmetic progression and determine $f_D(n)$ asymptotically for all homogeneous $D$. In the special case when $D$ is an interval, our result confirms a conjecture of Huang, Klurman, and Pohoata. Moreover, we demonstrate a dichotomy in the growth of $f_D(n)$, showing linear growth in $n$ when $D$ is a non-homogeneous arithmetic progression. Different from previous combinatorial and spectral approaches, we deduce our results by converting the restricted distance problems to restricted intersection problems.
Our proof ideas can be adapted to prove upper bounds on $t$-distance sets in Hamming cubes (also known as binary $t$-codes), which has been extensively studied by algebraic combinatorialists community, improving previous bounds from polynomial methods and optimization approaches.

Determining the maximum number of edges in an intersecting hypergraph on a fixed ground set under additional constraints is one of the central topics in extremal combinatorics. In contrast, there are few results on analogous problems concerning the maximum order of such hypergraphs. In this paper, we systematically study these vertex analogues.

Interpolating chromatic and homomorphism thresholds
The problem of chromatic thresholds seeks for minimum degree conditions that ensure $H$-free graphs to have a bounded chromatic number, or equivalently a bounded size homomorphic image. The strengthened homomorphism thresholds problem further requires that the homomorphic image itself is $H$-free. The purpose of this paper is two-fold. First, we define a generalized notion of threshold which encapsulates and interpolates chromatic and homomorphism thresholds via the theory of VC-dimension. Our first result shows a smooth transition between these two thresholds when varying the restrictions on homomorphic images. In particular, we proved that for $t \ge s \ge 3$ and $ε>0$, if $G$ is an $n$-vertex $K_s$-free graph with VC-dimension $d$ and $δ(G) \ge (\frac{(s-3)(t-s+2)+1}{(s-2)(t-s+2)+1} + ε)n$, then $G$ is homomorphic to a $K_t$-free graph $H$ with $|H| = O(1)$. Moreover, we construct graphs showing that this minimum degree condition is optimal. This extends and unifies the results of Thomassen, Łuczak and Thomassé, and Goddard, Lyle and Nikiforov, and provides a deeper insight into the cause of existences of homomorphic images with various properties.
Second, we introduce the blowup threshold $δ_B(H)$ as the infimum $α$ such that every $n$-vertex maximal $H$-free graph $G$ with $δ(G)\geαn$ is a blowup of some $F$ with $|F|=O(1)$. This notion strengthens homomorphism threshold. While the homomorphism thresholds for odd cycles remain unknown, we prove that $δ_B(C_{2k-1})=1/(2k-1)$ for any integer $k\ge 2$. This strengthens the result of Ebsen and Schacht and answers a question of Schacht and shows that, in sharp contrast to the chromatic thresholds, 0 is an accumulation point for blowup thresholds. Our proofs mix tools from VC-dimension theory and an iterative refining process, and draw connection to a problem concerning codes on graphs.

For graphs $H_1$ and $H_2$, if we glue them by identifying a given pair of vertices $u \in V(H_1)$ and $v \in V(H_2)$, what is the extremal number of the resulting graph $H_1^u \odot H_2^v$? In this paper, we study this problem and show that interestingly it is equivalent to an old question of Erdős and Simonovits on the Zarankiewicz problem. When $H_1, H_2$ are copies of a same bipartite graph $H$ and $u, v$ come from a same part, we prove that $\operatorname{ex}(n, H_1^u \odot H_2^v) = Θ\bigl( \operatorname{ex}(n, H) \bigr)$. As a corollary, we provide a short self-contained disproof of a conjecture of Erdős, which was recently disproved by Janzer.
Induced even cycles in locally sparse graphs
A graph $G$ is $(c,t)$-sparse if for every pair of vertex subsets $A,B\subset V(G)$ with $|A|,|B|\geq t$, $e(A,B)\leq (1-c)|A||B|$. In this paper we prove that for every $c>0$ and integer $\ell$, there exists $C>1$ such that if an $n$-vertex graph $G$ is $(c,t)$-sparse for some $t$, and has at least $C t^{1-1/\ell}n^{1+1/\ell}$ edges, then $G$ contains an induced copy of $C_{2\ell}$. This resolves a conjecture of Fox, Nenadov and Pham.

Determining the Turán densities of hypergraphs is a notoriously difficult problem at the core of combinatorics. Although Turán posed this problem in 1941, $π(K_{\ell}^{(k)})$ remains unknown for all $\ell>k\geq 3$. Prior to this work, it was not even known whether $π(K_{\ell}^{(k)})<π(K_{\ell+1}^{(k)})$ holds for general $\ell$ and $k$, and the best-known bounds on $π(K_{\ell}^{(k)})$ are far from implying anything close to this. We prove that $π(K_{\ell}^{(k)})<π(K_{\ell+1}^{(k)})$, for all $\ell>k\geq 3$, and provide a general criterion to distinguish the Turán densities of two hypergraphs. As a corollary, we obtain that $π(K_{k+1}^{(k)})<π(K_{k+2}^{(k)-})$, for all $k\geq 3$. For $k=3$, this was previously proved by Markström, answering a question by Erdős.

A well-known theorem of Nikiforov asserts that any graph with a positive $K_{r}$-density contains a logarithmic blowup of $K_r$. In this paper, we explore variants of Nikiforov's result in the following form. Given $r,t\in\mathbb{N}$, when a positive $K_{r}$-density implies the existence of a significantly larger (with almost linear size) blowup of $K_t$? Our results include:
For an $n$-vertex ordered graph $G$ with no induced monotone path $P_{6}$, if its complement $\overline{G}$ has positive triangle density, then $\overline{G}$ contains a biclique of size $Ω(\frac{n}{\log{n}})$. This strengthens a recent result of Pach and Tomon. For general $k$, let $g(k)$ be the minimum $r\in \mathbb{N}$ such that for any $n$-vertex ordered graph $G$ with no induced monotone $P_{2k}$, if $\overline{G}$ has positive $K_r$-density, then $\overline{G}$ contains a biclique of size $Ω(\frac{n}{\log{n}})$. Using concentration of measure and the isodiametric inequality on high dimensional spheres, we provide constructions showing that, surprisingly, $g(k)$ grows quadratically. On the other hand, we relate the problem of upper bounding $g(k)$ to a certain Ramsey problem and determine $g(k)$ up to a factor of 2.
Any incomparability graph with positive $K_{r}$-density contains a blowup of $K_r$ of size $Ω(\frac{n}{\log{n}}).$ This confirms a conjecture of Tomon in a stronger form. In doing so, we obtain a strong regularity type lemma for incomparability graphs with no large blowups of a clique, which is of independent interest.
We also prove that any $r$-comparability graph with positive $K_{(2h-2)^{r}+1}$-density contains a blowup of $K_h$ of size $Ω(n)$, where the constant $(2h-2)^{r}+1$ is optimal. The $\frac{n}{\log n}$ size of the blowups in all our results are optimal up to a constant factor.
