Majority dynamics on sparse random graphs
Consider a simple undirected graph $G$ on $N$ vertices, with each vertex holding an opinion from one of two options. Starting from the initial opinions on day 1, we run majority dynamics: on each subsequent day, all vertices simultaneously adopt the majority opinion among their neighbors, retaining their current opinion in case of a tie. A well-studied conjecture of Benjamini, Chan, O'Donnell, Tamuz, and Tan states that if $G$ is drawn from the random binomial model $\mathbb{G}(N,p)$, and if the starting opinions are chosen uniformly at random, then as long as $pN \to \infty$ the network will converge to 99% consensus with high probability. We confirm this conjecture as long as $pN \ge N^{\varepsilon}$ for any fixed $\varepsilon > 0$, showing that full unanimity is reached with high probability in $O(1/\varepsilon)$ days. This result improves on a line of results by Fountoulakis, Kang, and Makai, who achieve $\varepsilon = 1/2$; Chakraborti, Kim, Lee, and Tran, who achieve $\varepsilon = 2/5$; and Jaffe, who achieves $\varepsilon = 1/3$. The proof technique involves iteratively revealing the "opinion histories" for each vertex through time, keeping track of the degrees between every vertex and each of $2^k$ opinion history classes on day $k$. Our analysis of this process requires intricate estimates for degree-constrained random graph models using graph enumeration tools from the work of McKay and Wormald as well as Canfield, Greenhill, and McKay, and their extensions by Liebenau and Wormald. In doing so, we connect the discrete dynamics to a deterministic idealized process, whose leading-order behavior is described by conditional Gaussian probabilities and expectations.

Counting weighted maximal chains in the circular Bruhat order
Published • View Publication • BIB
The totally nonnegative Grassmannian $\mathrm{Gr}(k,n)_{\geq0}$ is the subset of the real Grassmannian $\mathrm{Gr}(k,n)$ consisting of points with all nonnegative Plücker coordinates. The circular Bruhat order is a poset isomorphic to the face poset of A. Postnikov's (2005) positroid cell decomposition of $\mathrm{Gr}(k,n)_{\geq0}$. We provide a closed formula for the sum of its weighted chains in the spirit of J. Stembridge (2002).

A Quantized Analogue of the Markov-Krein Correspondence
Published • View Publication • BIB
We study a family of measures originating from the signatures of the irreducible components of representations of the unitary group, as the size of the group goes to infinity. Given a random signature $λ$ of length $N$ with counting measure $\mathbf{m}$, we obtain a random signature $μ$ of length $N-1$ through projection onto a unitary group of lower dimension. The signature $μ$ interlaces with the signature $λ$, and we record the data of $μ,λ$ in a random rectangular Young diagram $w$. We show that under a certain set of conditions on $λ$, both $\mathbf{m}$ and $w$ converge as $N\to\infty$. We provide an explicit moment generating function relationship between the limiting objects. We further show that the moment generating function relationship induces a bijection between bounded measures and certain continual Young diagrams, which can be viewed as a quantized analogue of the Markov-Krein correspondence.

Critical groups of iterated cones

Let G be a finite graph, and let G_n be the n-th iterated cone over G. We study the structure of the critical group of G_n arising in divisor and sandpile theory.
