A note on the diameter of graphs of two-dimensional simplex codes
Let $Γ^s(2,q)$ be the graph induced in the Grassmann graph by the $q$-ary simplex codes of dimension 2. For $q=4$, this graph is known to have diameter 3. We prove that the same diameter occurs for every prime power $q\geq5$. Together with the elementary cases $q=2,3$, this gives diam$Γ^s(2,q)=0,2,3$ for $q=2$, $q=3$, and $q\geq4$, respectively. The upper bound is obtained from a consequence of a theorem of Marshall Hall on finite abelian groups. For $q\geq5$ an explicit diagonal pair of simplex lines gives the matching lower bound; we give two proofs, one using moments and one using products. For $q\geq7 we also retain an independent counting proof. The case $q=4$ is handled separately.
On aggregation-quantization permutability problem for discrete-time Markov chains
Given random walk on a graph, the corresponding discrete-time quantum walk can be constructed using the method proposed by Szegedy. On the other hand, given a partition of the set of states of a Markov chain, one can study the corresponding aggregated process. We extend the aggregation technique to the level of quantum Markov chains. We provide conditions under which application of these two operations - Szegedy's quantization and aggregation - give the same result. In particular, we show that the conditions are satisfied in the case of the random walk on graphs equipped with equitable partitions. We present several examples, which include the classical/quantum walks on Platonic solids. We discuss also relation of discrete-time classical/quantum walks on $N$-dimensional hypercube and the Ehrenfests urn model with $N$ particles. We apply our technique for of discrete-time walks on Cayley graphs of free groups. We also compare our results with those obtained using Cantero-Moral-Velazquez uniformization of unitary matrices.

The distant graph $G = G(\mathbb{P}(Z),\triangle)$ of the projective line over the ring of integers is considered. The shortest path problem in this graph is solved by use of Klein's geometric interpretation of Euclidean continued fractions. In case the minimal path is non-unique, all the possible splitting are described which allows us to give necessary and sufficient conditions for existence of a unique shortest path.
