On the edge metric dimension for the random graph
Let $G(V, E)$ be a connected simple undirected graph. In this paper we prove that the edge metric dimension (introduced by Kelenc, Tratnik and Yero) of the Erdős-Rényi random graph $G(n, p)$ is given by: $$\textrm{edim}(G(n, p)) = (1 + o(1))\frac{4\log(n)}{\log(1/q)},$$ where $q = 1 - 2p(1-p)^2(2-p)$.
A general purpose algorithm for counting simple cycles and simple paths of any length

We describe a general purpose algorithm for counting simple cycles and simple paths of any length $\ell$ on a (weighted di)graph on $N$ vertices and $M$ edges, achieving a time complexity of $O\left(N+M+\big(\ell^ω+\ellΔ\big) |S_\ell|\right)$. In this expression, $|S_\ell|$ is the number of (weakly) connected induced subgraphs of $G$ on at most $\ell$ vertices, $Δ$ is the maximum degree of any vertex and $ω$ is the exponent of matrix multiplication. We compare the algorithm complexity both theoretically and experimentally with most of the existing algorithms for the same task. These comparisons show that the algorithm described here is the best general purpose algorithm for the class of graphs where $(\ell^{ω-1}Δ^{-1}+1) |S_\ell|\leq |\text{Cycle}_\ell|$, with $|\text{Cycle}_\ell|$ the total number of simple cycles of length at most $\ell$, including backtracks and self-loops. On Erdős-Rényi random graphs, we find empirically that this happens when the edge probability is larger than circa $4/N$. In addition, we show that some real-world networks also belong to this class. Finally, the algorithm permits the enumeration of simple cycles and simple paths on networks where vertices are labeled from an alphabet on $n$ letters with a time complexity of $O\left(N+M+\big(n^\ell\ell^ω+\ellΔ\big) |S_\ell|\right)$. A Matlab implementation of the algorithm proposed here is available for download.

We study the critical behavior of the component sizes for the configuration model when the tail of the degree distribution of a randomly chosen vertex is a regularly-varying function with exponent $τ-1$, where $τ\in (3,4)$. The component sizes are shown to be of the order $n^{(τ-2)/(τ-1)}L(n)^{-1}$ for some slowly-varying function $L(\cdot)$. We show that the re-scaled ordered component sizes converge in distribution to the ordered excursions of a thinned Lévy process. This proves that the scaling limits for the component sizes for these heavy-tailed configuration models are in a different universality class compared to the Erdős-Rényi random graphs. Also the joint re-scaled vector of ordered component sizes and their surplus edges is shown to have a distributional limit under a strong topology. Our proof resolves a conjecture by Joseph, Ann. Appl. Probab. (2014) about the scaling limits of uniform simple graphs with i.i.d degrees in the critical window, and sheds light on the relation between the scaling limits obtained by Joseph and in this paper, which appear to be quite different. Further, we use percolation to study the evolution of the component sizes and the surplus edges within the critical scaling window, which is shown to converge in finite dimension to the augmented multiplicative coalescent process introduced by Bhamidi et. al., Probab. Theory Related Fields (2014). The main results of this paper are proved under rather general assumptions on the vertex degrees. We also discuss how these assumptions are satisfied by some of the frameworks that have been studied previously.

We prove expectation and concentration results for the following random variables on an Erdős-Rényi random graph $\mathcal{G}\left(n,p\right)$ in the sparsely connected regime $\log n + \log\log \log n \leq np < n^{1/10}$: effective resistances, random walk hitting and commute times, the Kirchoff index, cover cost, random target times, the mean hitting time and Kemeny's constant. For the effective resistance between two vertices our concentration result extends further to $np\geq c\log n, \; c>0$. To achieve these results, we show that a strong connectedness property holds with high probability for $\mathcal{G}(n,p)$ in this regime.

For percolation on finite transitive graphs, Nachmias and Peres suggested a characterization of the critical probability based on the logarithmic derivative of the susceptibility. As a first test-case, we study their suggestion for the Erdős-Rényi random graph G_{n,p}, and confirm that the logarithmic derivative has the desired properties: (i) its maximizer lies inside the critical window p=1/n+Θ(n^{-4/3}), and (ii) the inverse of its maximum value coincides with the Θ(n^{-4/3})-width of the critical window. We also prove that the maximizer is not located at p=1/n or p=1/(n-1), refuting a speculation of Peres.

In this paper, we study zero-one laws for the Erdős--Rényi random graph model $G(n,p)$ in the case when $p = n^{-α}$ for $α>0$. For a given class $\mathcal{K}$ of logical sentences about graphs and a given function $p=p(n)$, we say that $G(n,p)$ obeys the zero-one law (w.r.t. the class $\mathcal{K}$) if each sentence $\varphi\in\mathcal{K}$ either a.a.s. true or a.a.s. false for $G(n,p)$. In this paper, we consider first order properties and monadic second order properties of bounded \textit{quantifier depth} $k$, that is, the length of the longest chain of nested quantifiers in the formula expressing the property. Zero-one laws for properties of quantifier depth $k$ we call the \textit{zero-one $k$-laws}.
The main results of this paper concern the zero-one $k$-laws for monadic second order properties (MSO properties). We determine all values $α>0$, for which the zero-one $3$-law for MSO properties does not hold. We also show that, in contrast to the case of the $3$-law, there are infinitely many values of $α$ for which the zero-one $4$-law for MSO properties does not hold. To this end, we analyze the evolution of certain properties of $G(n,p)$ that may be of independent interest.

The $k$-section width and the Max-Cut for the configuration model are shown to exhibit phase transitions according to the values of certain parameters of the asymptotic degree distribution. These transitions mirror those observed on Erdős-Rényi random graphs, established by Luczak and McDiarmid (2001), and Coppersmith et al. (2004), respectively.

Fix a simple graph $G=(V,E)$ and choose a random initial 3-coloring of vertices drawn from a uniform product measure. The 3-color cycle cellular automaton is a process in which at each discrete time step in parallel, every vertex with color $i$ advances to the successor color $(i+1)$ mod 3 if in contact with a neighbor with the successor color, and otherwise retains the same color. In the Greenberg-Hastings Model, the same update rule applies only to color 0, while other two colors automatically advance. The limiting behavior of these processes has been studied mainly on the integer lattices. In this paper, we introduce a monotone comparison process defined on the universal covering space of the underlying graph, and characterize the limiting behavior of these processes on arbitrary connected graphs. In particular, we establish a phase transition on the Erdös-Rényi random graph. On infinite trees, we connect the rate of color change to the cloud speed of an associated tree-indexed walk. We give estimates of the cloud speed by generalizing known results to trees with leaves.
Barak-Erdős graphs and the infinite-bin model

A Barak-Erdős graph is a directed acyclic version of the Erdős-Rényi random graph. It is obtained by performing independent bond percolation with parameter $p$ on the complete graph with vertices $\{1,...,n\}$, in which the edge between two vertices $i<j$ is directed from $i$ to $j$. The length of the longest path in this graph grows linearly with the number of vertices, at rate $C(p)$. In this article, we use a coupling between Barak-Erdős graphs and infinite-bin models to provide explicit estimates on $C(p)$. More precisely, we prove that the front of an infinite-bin model grows at linear speed, and that this speed can be obtained as the sum of a series. Using these results, we prove the analyticity of $C$ for $p >1/2$, and compute its power series expansion. We also obtain the first two terms of the asymptotic expansion of $C$ as $p \to 0$, using a coupling with branching random walks.
A Quantitative Local Limit Theorem for Triangles in Random Graphs
In this paper we prove a quantiative local limit theorem for the distribution of the number of triangles in the Erdős-Renyi random graph $G(n,p)$, for a fixed $p\in (0,1)$. This proof is an extension of the previous work of Gilmer and Kopparty, who proved that the local limit theorem held asymptotically for triangles. Our work gives bounds on the $\ell^1$ and $\ell^\infty$ distance of the triangle distribution from a suitable discrete normal.

We study asymptotical probabilities of first order and monadic second order properties of Erdos-Renyi random graph G(n,n^{-a}). The random graph obeys FO (MSO) zero-one k-law if for any first order (monadic second order) formulae it is true for G(n,n^{-a}) with probability tending to 0 or to 1. Zero-one k-laws are well studied only for the first order language and a < 1. We obtain new zero-one k-laws (both for first order and monadic second order languages) when a > 1. Proofs of these results are based on the existed study of first order equivalence classes and our study of monadic second order equivalence classes. The respective results are of interest by themselves.
On infinite spectra of first order properties of random graphs
In this paper, we study spectra of first order properties of Erdos-Renyi random graph. We proved that minimal quantifier depth of a formula with an infinite spectrum is either 4 or 5.

A tree $T$ in an edge-colored graph is called a {\it proper tree} if no two adjacent edges of $T$ receive the same color. Let $G$ be a connected graph of order $n$ and $k$ be an integer with $2\leq k \leq n$. For $S\subseteq V(G)$ and $|S| \ge 2$, an $S$-tree is a tree containing the vertices of $S$ in $G$. Suppose $\{T_1,T_2,\ldots,T_\ell\}$ is a set of $S$-trees, they are called \emph{internally disjoint} if $E(T_i)\cap E(T_j)=\emptyset$ and $V(T_i)\cap V(T_j)=S$ for $1\leq i\neq j\leq \ell$. For a set $S$ of $k$ vertices of $G$, the maximum number of internally disjoint $S$-trees in $G$ is denoted by $κ(S)$. The $κ$-connectivity $κ_k(G)$ of $G$ is defined by $κ_k(G)=\min\{κ(S)\mid S$ is a $k$-subset of $V(G)\}$. For a connected graph $G$ of order $n$ and for two integers $k$ and $\ell$ with $2\le k\le n$ and $1\leq \ell \leq κ_k(G)$, the \emph{$(k,\ell)$-proper index $px_{k,\ell}(G)$} of $G$ is the minimum number of colors that are needed in an edge-coloring of $G$ such that for every $k$-subset $S$ of $V(G)$, there exist $\ell$ internally disjoint proper $S$-trees connecting them. In this paper, we show that for every pair of positive integers $k$ and $\ell$ with $k \ge 3$, there exists a positive integer $N_1=N_1(k,\ell)$ such that $px_{k,\ell}(K_n) = 2$ for every integer $n \ge N_1$, and also there exists a positive integer $N_2=N_2(k,\ell)$ such that $px_{k,\ell}(K_{m,n}) = 2$ for every integer $n \ge N_2$ and $m=O(n^r) (r \ge 1)$. In addition, we show that for every $p \ge c\sqrt[k]{\frac{\log_a n}{n}}$ ($c \ge 5$), $px_{k,\ell}(G_{n,p})\le 2$ holds almost surely, where $G_{n,p}$ is the Erdös-Rényi random graph model.

In this note we study inhomogeneous random bipartite graphs in random environment. These graphs can be thought of as an extension of the classical Erdös-Rényi random graphs in a random environment. We show that the expected number of perfect matchings obeys a precise quenched asymptotic and that it can be approximated using an iterative process that converges exponentially fast.

We investigate the expected value of various graph parameters associated with the minimum rank of a graph, including minimum rank/maximum nullity and related Colin de Verdière-type parameters. Let $G(v,p)$ denote the usual Erdős-Rényi random graph on $v$ vertices with edge probability $p$. We obtain bounds for the expected value of the random variables ${\rm mr}(G(v,p))$, ${\rm M}(G(v,p))$, $ν(G(v,p))$ and $ξ(G(v,p))$, which yield bounds on the average values of these parameters over all labeled graphs of order $v$.
Local symmetry in random graphs

Quite often real-world networks can be thought of as being symmetric, in the abstract sense that vertices can be found to have similar or equivalent structural roles. However, traditional measures of symmetry in graphs are based on their automorphism groups, which do not account for the similarity of local structures. We introduce the concept of local symmetry, which reflects the structural equivalence of the vertices' egonets. We study the emergence of asymmetry in the Erdős-Rényi random graph model and identify regimes of both asymptotic local symmetry and asymptotic local asymmetry. We find that local symmetry persists at least to an average degree of $n^{1/3}$ and local asymmetry emerges at an average degree not greater than $n^{1/2}$, which are regimes of much larger average degree than for traditional, global asymmetry.

Extending a prior result of Contucci et al (Comm. Math. Phys. 2013), we determine the free energy of the Potts antiferromagnet on the Erdös-Rényi random graph at all temperatures for average degrees $d \le (2k-1)\ln k - 2 - k^{-1/2}$. In particular, we show that for this regime of $d$ there does not occur a phase transition.
Saturation in random graphs
A graph $H$ is $K_s$-saturated if it is a maximal $K_s$-free graph, i.e., $H$ contains no clique on $s$ vertices, but the addition of any missing edge creates one. The minimum number of edges in a $K_s$-saturated graph was determined over 50 years ago by Zykov and independently by Erdős, Hajnal and Moon. In this paper, we study the random analog of this problem: minimizing the number of edges in a maximal $K_s$-free subgraph of the Erdős-Rényi random graph $G(n,p)$. We give asymptotically tight estimates on this minimum, and also provide exact bounds for the related notion of weak saturation in random graphs. Our results reveal some surprising behavior of these parameters.

The theory of dense graph limits comes with a natural sampling process which yields an inhomogeneous variant G(n,W) of the Erdos-Renyi random graph. Here we study the clique number of these random graphs. We establish the concentration of the clique number of G(n,W) for each fixed n, and give examples of graphons for which G(n,W) exhibits wild long-term behavior. Our main result is an asymptotic formula which gives the almost sure clique number of these random graphs. We obtain a similar result for the bipartite version of the problem. We also make an observation that might be of independent interest: Every graphon avoiding a fixed graph is countably-partite.

We consider the ensemble of real symmetric random matrices $H^{(n,ρ)}$ obtained from the determinant form of the Ihara zeta function of random graphs that have $n$ vertices with the edge probability $ρ/n$. We prove that the normalized eigenvalue counting function of $H^{(n,ρ)}$ weakly converges in average as $n,ρ\to\infty$ and $ρ=o(n^α)$ for any $α>0$ to a shift of the Wigner semi-circle distribution. Our results support a conjecture that the large Erdos-Rényi random graphs satisfy in average the weak graph theory Riemann Hypothesis.
