The celebrated Touchard congruence states that $B_{n+p}B_n+B_{n+1}$ modulo $p$, where $p$ is a prime number and $B_n$ denotes the Bell number. In this paper we study divisibility properties of $B_{n-p}$ and their generalizations involving higher powers of $p$ as well as the $r$-Bell numbers. In particular, we show a closely relation of the considered problem to the Sun-Zagier congruence, which is additionally improved by deriving \mbox{a new} relation between $r$-Bell and derangement numbers. Finally, we conclude some results on the period of the Bell numbers modulo $p$.

We examine and clarify in detail the contributions of Yoshisuke Matsunaga (1694?--1744) to the computation of Bell numbers in the eighteenth century (in the Edo period), providing modern perspectives to some unknown materials that are by far the earliest in the history of Bell numbers. Later clarification and developments by Yoriyuki Arima (1714--1783), and several new results such as the asymptotic distributions (notably the corresponding local limit theorems) of a few closely related sequences are also given.
The ordered Bell numbers as weighted sums of odd or even Stirling numbers of the second kind
For the Stirling numbers of the second kind $S(n,k)$ and the ordered Bell numbers $B(n)$, we prove the identity $\sum_{k=1}^{n/2} S(n,2k)(2k-1)! = B(n-1)$. An analogous identity holds for the sum over odd $k$'s.
Ward-Fontené Differential Universal Algebras
In this paper a Ward-Fontené differential universal algebra is constructed. In this algebra it is possible to obtain a product $ψ$-rule and a general $ψ$-rule of Leibniz for any calculus on sequences. In particular, the simplicial polytopic calculus and the calculus on Bell numbers are introduced.

The Bell numbers count the number of different ways to partition a set of $n$ elements while the graphical Bell numbers count the number of non-equivalent partitions of the vertex set of a graph into stable sets. This relation between graph theory and integer sequences has motivated us to study properties on the average number of colors in the non-equivalent colorings of a graph to discover new non trivial inequalities for the Bell numbers. Example are given to illustrate our approach.
Set Partitions and Other Bell Number Enumerated Objects
In this paper, we study classes of subexcedant functions enumerated by the Bell numbers and present bijections on set partitions. We present a set of permutations whose transposition arrays are the restricted growth functions, thus defining Bell permutations of the second kind. We describe a bijection between Bell permutations of the first kind (introduced by Ponti and Vajnovzski) and the second kind. We present two other Bell number enumerated classes of subexcedant functions. Further, we present bijections on set partitions, in particular, an involution that interchanges the set of merging blocks and the set of successions. We use the bijections to enumerate the distribution of these statistics over the set of set partitions, and also give some enumeration results.

Let $s$ denote West's stack-sorting map. For all positive integers $m$ and all integers $n\geq 2m-2$, we give a simple characterization of the set $s^{n-m}(S_n)$; as a consequence, we find that $|s^{n-m}(S_n)|$ is the $m^\text{th}$ Bell number $B_m$. We also prove that the restriction $n\geq 2m-2$ is tight by showing that $|s^{m-3}(S_{2m-3})|=B_m+m-2$ for all $m\geq 3$.
A new extension of the Sun-Zagier result involving Bell numbers and derangement numbers
Let $p$ be any prime and let $a$ and $n$ be positive integers with $p\nmid n$. We show that $$\sum_{k=1}^{p^a-1}\frac{B_k}{(-n)^k}\equiv a(-1)^{n-1}D_{n-1}\pmod {p},$$ where $B_0,B_1,\ldots$ are the Bell numbers and $D_0,D_1,\ldots$ are the derangement numbers. This extends a result of Sun and Zagier published in 2011. Furthermore, we prove that $$(-x)^n\sum_{k=1}^{p^a-1}\frac{B_k(x)}{(-n)^k}\equiv -\sum_{r=1}^ax^{p^r}\sum_{k=0}^{n-1}\frac{(n-1)!}{k!}(-x)^k\pmod{p\mathbb Z_p[x]},$$ where $B_k(x)=\sum_{l=0}^kS(k,l)x^l$ is the Bell polynomial of degree $k$ with $S(k,l)\ (0\le l\le k)$ the Stirling numbers of the second kind, and $\mathbb Z_p$ is the ring of all $p$-adic integers.

It is shown that for positive real numbers $ 0<λ_{1}<\dots<λ_{n}$, $\left[\frac{1}{β({λ_i}, {λ_j})}\right]$, where $ β(\cdot,\cdot)$ denotes the beta function, is infinitely divisible and totally positive. For $ \left[\frac{1}{β({i},{j})}\right]$, the Cholesky decomposition and successive elementary bidiagonal decomposition are computed. Let $\mathfrak w(n)$ be the $n$th Bell number. It is proved that $\left[\mathfrak w(i+j)\right]$ is a totally positive matrix but is infinitely divisible only upto order $4$. It is also shown that the symmetrized Stirling matrices are totally positive.
On Ascent, Repetition and Descent Sequences
Ascent sequences have received a lot of attention in recent years in connection with (2 + 2)-free posets and other combinatorial objects. Here, we first show bijectively that analogous repetition sequences are counted by the Bell numbers, and 021-avoiding repetition sequences by the Catalan numbers. Then we adapt a bijection of Chen et al and use it along with the "symbolic" method of Flajolet to find the 4-variable generating function for 021-avoiding ascent sequences by length, number of 0's, number of isolated 0's, and number of runs of 2 or more 0's. We deduce that 021-avoiding ascent sequences that have no consecutive 0's (resp. no isolated 0's) both satisfy a Catalan-like recurrence, differing only in initial conditions, and give a bijective proof for the case of no consecutive 0's. Lastly, we show that 021-avoiding descent sequences are equinumerous with same-size $UUDU$-avoiding Dyck paths.
Unordered Factorizations with $k$ Parts
We derive new formulas for the number of unordered (distinct) factorizations with $k$ parts of a positive integer $n$ as sums over the partitions of $k$ and an auxiliary function, the number of partitions of the prime exponents of $n$, where the parts have a specific number of colors. As a consequence, some new relations between partitions, Bell numbers and Stirling number of the second kind are derived. We also derive a recursive formula for the number of unordered factorizations with $k$ different parts and a simple recursive formula for the number of partitions with $k$ different parts.
Sum of weighted records in set partitions
The purpose of this paper is to find an explicit formula and asymptotic estimate for the total number of sum of weighted records over set partitions of $[n]$
in terms of Bell numbers. For that we study the generating function for the number of set partitions of $[n]$ according to the statistic sum of weighted records.

The number of flats of a hyperplane arrangement is considered as a generalization of the Bell number and the Stirling number of the second kind. Robert Gill gave the exponential generating function of the number of flats of the extended Catalan arrangements, using species. In this article, we introduce the species of flats of the extended Catalan and Shi arrangements and they are given by iterated substitution of species of sets and lists. Moreover, we enumerate the flats of these arrangements in terms of infinite matrices.
Sets of iterated Partitions and the Bell iterated Exponential Integers
It is well known that the Bell numbers represent the total number of partitions of an n-set. Similarly, the Stirling numbers of the second kind, represent the number of k-partitions of an n-set. In this paper we introduce a certain partitioning process that gives rise to a sequence of sets of "nested" partitions. We prove that at stage m, the cardinality of the resulting set will equal the m-th order Bell number. This set-theoretic interpretation enables us to make a natural definition of higher order Stirling numbers and to study the combinatorics of these entities. The cardinality of the elements of the constructed "hyper partition" sets are explored.
An asymptotic Formula for the iterated exponential Bell Numbers
In 1938 E. T. Bell introduced "The Iterated Exponential Integers". He proved that these numbers may be expressed by polynomials with rational coefficients. However, Bell gave no formulas for any of the coefficients except the trivial one, which is always 1. Our task has been to find the coefficient of the leading term, giving asymptotic information about these numbers.
Analogies of the Qi formula for some Dowling type numbers
In the paper, the authors establish explicit formulas for the Dowling numbers and their generalizations in terms of generalizations of the Lah numbers and the Stirling numbers of the second kind. These results gen- eralize the Qi formula for the Bell numbers in terms of the Lah numbers and the Stirling numbers of the second kind.

We exhibit a connection between two statistics on set partitions, the intertwining number and the depth-index. In particular, results link the intertwining number to the algebraic geometry of Borel orbits. Furthermore, by studying the generating polynomials of our statistics, we determine the $q=-1$ specialization of a $q$-analogue of the Bell numbers. Finally, by using Renner's $H$-polynomial of an algebraic monoid, we introduce and study a $t$-analog of $q$-Stirling numbers.
Combinatorics of patience sorting monoids

This paper makes a combinatorial study of the two monoids and the two types of tableaux that arise from the two possible generalizations of the Patience Sorting algorithm from permutations (or standard words) to words. For both types of tableaux, we present Robinson--Schensted--Knuth-type correspondences (that is, bijective correspondences between word arrays and certain pairs of semistandard tableaux of the same shape), generalizing two known correspondences: a bijective correspondence between standard words and certain pairs of standard tableaux, and an injective correspondence between words and pairs of tableaux.
We also exhibit formulas to count both the number of each type of tableaux with given evaluations (that is, containing a given number of each symbol). Observing that for any natural number $n$, the $n$-th Bell number is given by the number of standard tableaux containing $n$ symbols, we restrict the previous formulas to standard words and extract a formula for the Bell numbers. Finally, we present a `hook length formula' that gives the number of standard tableaux of a given shape and deduce some consequences.

In this paper, a generalized recurrence relation for the $r$-Whitney numbers of the second kind is derived using as framework the operators $X$ and $D$ satisfying the commutation relation $DX-XD=1$. This recurrence relation is shown to be a generalization of the well-known Spivey's Bell number. Moreover, several other identities generalizing Spivey's Bell number formula are obtained.

This paper introduces an alternative form of the derivation of Spivey's Bell number formula which involves the $q$-Boson operators $a$ and $a^{\dagger}$. Furthermore, a similar formula for the case of the $(q,r)$-Dowling polynomials is obtained, and is shown to produce a generalization of the latter.
