On Spielman's Laplacian Eigenratio Conjecture and Related Problems
Let $G$ be an $n$-vertex graph with Laplacian eigenvalues $0=λ_1(G)\le λ_2(G)\le\cdots\le λ_n(G)$. Motivated by the Alon-Boppana bound and the Ramanujan phenomenon for regular graphs, Spielman conjectured that, for every graph $G$ with fixed average degree $d\ge 1$, its Laplacian eigenratio satisfies $$ \frac{λ_2(G)}{λ_n(G)} \le \frac{d-2\sqrt{d-1}}{d+2\sqrt{d-1}}+o_n(1), $$ where $o_n(1)\to 0$ as $n\to\infty$. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate this conjecture. We show that the situation is mixed. On the negative side, the conjecture fails for infinitely many average degrees $d>2$, via constructions based on bipartite Ramanujan graphs. On the positive side, it holds in two important settings: we verify it for all average degrees $d\le 2$, and we prove it for all regular graphs. In fact, for regular graphs we obtain stronger bounds comparing higher Laplacian eigenvalues. As a consequence, we show that for every fixed $d\ge 3$ and every $\varepsilon>0$, every sufficiently large $d$-regular Ramanujan graph has linearly many adjacency eigenvalues below $-2\sqrt{d-1}+\varepsilon$, thereby strengthening earlier results of Li and Cioabă by giving an unconditional result of this form. We also settle two related conjectures: one of You and Liu concerning the maximum Laplacian eigenratio of trees, and one of Gu concerning the Hamiltonicity of graphs with large Laplacian eigenratio.

Dirac's theorem and the switch geometry of perfect matchings
Let $G$ be a graph on an even number $n$ of vertices and let ${\cal M}_G$ be the collection of perfect matchings in $G$. Dirac's theorem says that if the minimum degree $δ(G)$ of $G$ is at least $n/2$, then ${\cal M}_G$ is guaranteed to be non-empty, while this is not necessarily the case if $δ(G) \le n/2-1$. Given an integer $k\ge 2$, let $\mathcal H_k(G)$ be the reconfiguration graph formed on ${\cal M}_G$ by connecting two distinct $M_1,M_2\in {\cal M}_G$ by an edge in $\mathcal H_k(G)$ if $M_1$ can be obtained from $M_2$ by switching at most $k$ edges. Besides non-emptiness, as per Dirac's theorem, what other natural properties of $\mathcal H_k(G)$ are guaranteed based on the minimum degree $δ(G)$ of $G$? We show that if $δ(G) \ge \lfloor2n/3\rfloor+1$, then $\mathcal H_2(G)$ must be connected and an expander, while for each $δ\le \lfloor(2n-2)/3\rfloor$ there are $n$-vertex graphs $G$ with minimum degree $δ$ such that $\mathcal H_2(G)$ is disconnected. We also show that, if $δ(G) \ge n/2+2$, then $\mathcal H_3(G)$ must be connected and an expander, while for each $δ\le n/2-C_k$ there are $n$-vertex graphs $G$ with minimum degree $δ$ such that $\mathcal H_k(G)$ is disconnected, for some $C_k$ depending on $k\ge 3$. Furthermore, for every $\varepsilon >0$, there exists a $c>1$ such that for every $k\ge 2$ and every large enough $n$, there are $n$-vertex graphs $G$ with $δ(G) \ge \frac{n}2-\varepsilon kn$ such that $\mathcal H_k(G)$ has at least $c^n$ components. With respect to guaranteeing that $\mathcal H_k(G)$ has positive minimum degree (or, equivalently, no isolated vertices) we show that if $δ(G) \ge n/2+1$, then $\mathcal H_2(G)$ must have positive minimum degree. For $k\ge 3$, we show how this threshold for $δ(G)$ is related to the notorious Caccetta-Häggkvist conjecture.

The interval neighborhoods in the real Grothendieck groups
For a finite dimensional algebra $A$, the TF equivalence on the real Grothendieck group $K_0(\operatorname{\mathsf{proj}} A)_\mathbb{R}$ can be regarded as a completion of the $g$-fan. For example, the silting cones $C^\circ(U)$ of 2-term presilting complexes $U$ give the most fundamental family of TF equivalence classes. The next step is studying the TF equivalence classes around each silting cone $C^\circ(U)$. Thus, in this paper, we investigate the closed interval neighborhood $D(U)$ of $C^\circ(U)$. As our main result, we give a $2^{|U|}:1$ correspondence between the TF equivalence classes in $D(U)$ and those in $K_0(\operatorname{\mathsf{proj}} B)_\mathbb{R}$, where $B$ is the algebra appearing in the $τ$-tilting reduction at $U$. For this purpose, we give an explicit description of defining inequalities and the faces of $D(U)$ as a polyhedral cone, by using 2-term simple-minded collections and $M$-TF equivalences.

The complex of discrete Morse matchings of the $n$-simplex: homotopy types and structural results
The complex of discrete Morse matchings $\M(K)$, introduced by Chari and Joswig, is a simplicial complex whose simplices are the acyclic matchings on the Hasse diagram of $K$. Its homotopy type is known in only a handful of cases. In this paper, we compute the homotopy types of $\M(Δ^3)$ and $\M(\partialΔ^3)$, the corresponding pure complexes $\M_{P}(Δ^3) \simeq \M_{P}(\partialΔ^3)$, and the generalized complex of discrete Morse matchings $\GM(Δ^3) \simeq \GM(\partialΔ^3)$. For general $n$ we prove the identity $f(n) = (n+1) \cdot |\text{top-dimensional facets of } \M(Δ^n_{(n-2)})|$, reducing the enumeration of optimal matchings on $Δ^n$ to an enumeration on its $(n-2)$-skeleton, and we show that the inclusion $\M(K) \hookrightarrow \M(CK)$ is null-homotopic for any cone. We also compute the $f$-vector of $\M(Δ^4)$, whose top entry $f(4) = 380{,}125$ is the number of optimal discrete Morse matchings on $Δ^4$. We conclude with two conjectures extending the $\M_{P}$ and $\GM$ equivalences to all $n$.

Generalized Turán problems for Berge hypergraphs
Let $\mathcal{H}$ be a hypergraph and $F$ be a graph. If there exists a bijection between the hyperedges of $\mathcal{H}$ and the edges of $F$ such that each hyperedge contains its image, then we say that $\mathcal{H}$ is a \textit{Berge copy} of $F$, and the collection of Berge copies of $F$ is denoted by Berge-$F$. Given $r$-graphs $\mathcal{F}$ and $\mathcal{H}$, the generalized hyper-Turán number $\text{ex}_r(n, \mathcal{H}, \mathcal{F})$ is the maximum number of copies of $\mathcal{H}$ in $n$-vertex $\mathcal{F}$-free $r$-graphs. We study $\text{ex}_r(n, \mathcal{H}, \text{Berge-}F)$. For general $\mathcal{H}$, we connect this problem to counting copies of the shadow graph of $\mathcal{H}$ in $F$-free graphs and obtain several exact results. In particular, we show that for any hypergraph $\mathcal{H}$, if $k$ is sufficiently large, then $\text{ex}_r(n, \mathcal{H}, \text{Berge-}K_k)$ is achieved by the balanced complete $(k-1)$-partite $r$-graph, generalizing a result of Morrison, Nir, Norin, Rza{ż}ewski and Wesolek [\textit{Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Series B}, 162 (2023) 231--243] to the case of hypergraphs. We show that $\text{ex}_r(n,K_s^r,\text{Berge-}F)\le \text{ex}_s(n,\text{Berge-}F)$ and present sufficient conditions for equality. We also consider the connected generalized Turán number for Berge paths.

Finite combinatorics and computability theory
We prove that the existence of finite combinatorial objects such as affine planes, mutually orthogonal Latin squares, and resolvable balanced incomplete block designs can be reformulated as the existence of certain algorithmic reductions between problems related to the pigeonhole principle. We then study the latter using counting arguments and computability theory. In particular, we demonstrate that computability theoretic techniques can be used to refine and prove new results in finite combinatorics.

Tabu Search for Tactical Wireless Network Design in Challenging Environments
Tactical wireless networks play a vital role in ensuring reliable connectivity in scenarios where conventional telecommunications infrastructure is unavailable or damaged, such as areas impacted by natural disasters. These networks are designed to operate efficiently in difficult and unpredictable environments by adapting to the unique characteristics of the terrain. This research addresses a real-world challenge from the communications industry: designing tactical wireless networks that meet the specific constraints defined by our industrial partner, with the goal of optimizing signal strength and coverage while minimizing interference. To this end, we propose two tabu search algorithms that incorporate several heuristic subroutines, enabling the efficient generation of high-quality network designs. Results from synthetic tests demonstrate that our approach produces networks rapidly and effectively, offering significant improvements over existing methods.

Saturation of Markov Polynomials
Solutions to the Markov equation appear in many mathematical contexts. We aim to build on the understanding of them by proving a recent conjecture about Markov polynomials; solutions to a generalised version of the Markov equation. The proof we provide is a constructive argument based on the Markov snake graph, a combinatorial object related to Markov numbers, deepening the connection between the Markov equation and combinatorics.

An elementary proof of Sierksma's conjecture for seven points in the plane
We give a new simple geometric proof that any seven points in the plane have four Tverberg partitions into three sets. This is the only confirmed non-trivial case of Sierksma's conjecture. Earlier proofs, by Stephan Hell, relied on topological arguments.
Near-optimal density theorems for large dilates of large point configurations
We study density thresholds that force a measurable set $E\subseteq\mathbb{R}^d$ to contain all sufficiently large similar copies of every $n$-point configuration. We prove a lower bound of the form $1-O((\log n)/n)$, which matches the known upper bound up to the logarithmic factor, thus essentially resolving a problem posed by Falconer, Yavicoli, and the first author of the present paper. We also study the same problem for embeddings of $n$-point configurations into $\mathbb{R}^d$ equipped with the $\ell^p$ norm, obtaining an asymptotically sharp bound $1-1/n+o(1/n)$, as soon as $p\in(1,\infty)\setminus\{2\}$. In the proof of the former estimate we use equidistribution of polynomial sequences modulo $1$ combined with probabilistic thinning. The proof of the latter estimate relies on the geometry of the $\ell^p$ spaces for $p\neq2$.

Soft tilings
By means of constructing a new edge-bending algorithm, we prove that every locally polyhedral tiling of $\mathbb{R}^3$ can be completely softened. A weaker form of this statement, for polyhedral space tilings, was conjectured by Domokos, Goriely, G. Horváth and Regős in 2024. We also provide a short proof for a result of Domokos, G. Horváth, and Regős, stating that in a balanced polygonic tiling of the plane, the average number of spikes is at least 2 per cell.

On Chromatic Asymptotic Approximate Groups
We study a chromatic theory of asymptotic approximate groups for tuples of subsets of abelian groups, combining Nathanson's chromatic sumset formalism with asymptotic covering ideas from approximate group theory. This framework encodes simultaneous additive growth across several color classes. We show some general lifting and invariance principles, establish chromatic covering theorems for finite tuples and for tuples whose color classes are finite unions of unbounded linear sets, and obtain exact structure theorems for translated submonoids and finite-set-plus-submonoid sets. We also obtain sharper binomial bounds in the finite and unbounded-linear cases than the previous lattice-covering estimates. In the integer setting, we show that for each fixed threshold $t$, the threshold-$t$ chromatic layers form an asymptotic approximate family, using Nathanson's eventual interval-plus-edges description to obtain a uniform bound of size $r+2$ and prove an inhomogeneous extension for certain families.

Separating Matchings in Cubic Graphs
We study separating matchings in graphs, that is, matchings whose removal increases the number of connected components, and focus on determining the maximum size of such a matching in a graph $G$, denoted by $\mathrm{mms}(G)$. We show that every subcubic graph admits a separating matching, except for exactly eight graphs, which allows us to focus on bounding $\mathrm{mms}(G)$ for cubic graphs. Our main results show that every cubic graph $G$ on $n$ vertices that admits a separating matching satisfies $\mathrm{mms}(G) \ge n/2 - 2$. For bipartite cubic graphs, assuming a conjecture of Funk, the problem reduces to a recursively defined class $\mathcal{F}$, for which we prove that $\mathrm{mms}(G) \ge n/2 - 1$, up to four exceptional graphs. In contrast, we show that every claw-free cubic graph satisfies $\mathrm{mms}(G) = n/2$. These results extend previous work on matching cuts and disconnected $2$-factors, and provide the first systematic study of maximum separating matchings.

Generalized spectral Turán problems for disjoint cliques
The generalized Turán number $\text{ex}(n, H, F)$ denotes the maximum number of copies of $H$ in an $n$-vertex $F$-free graph. Let $kK_{r+1}$ be the disjoint union of $k$ copies of the complete graph $K_{r+1}$. Recently, Gerbner determined $\text{ex}(n, K_{t},kK_{r+1})$ for all sufficiently large $n$. In this paper, we study a spectral analogue of this problem via the $t$-clique tensor of a graph. We prove that if an $n$-vertex $kK_{r+1}$-free graph $G$ maximizes the $t$-clique spectral radius, then for sufficiently large $n$, $G$ is the join of a complete graph $K_{k-1}$ and the $r$-partite Turán graph $T_{r}(n-k+1)$. This establishes a spectral counterpart of Gerbner's Theorem. Moreover, in the case $t=2$, our result recovers a theorem of Ni, Wang, and Kang on the maximum spectral radius of $kK_{r+1}$-free graphs.

Ramsey-finiteness for graph pairs: A complete solution to the Burr-Erdős-Faudree-Schelp conjectures
For finite graphs $G$ and $H$, let $\RR(G,H)$ denote the isomorphism classes of Ramsey-minimal graphs for $(G,H)$. We prove two 1981 conjectures of Burr, Erdős, Faudree, Rousseau, and Schelp: Ramsey-finiteness is preserved by adjoining disjoint matchings, and $(G,H)$ is Ramsey-infinite unless both graphs are odd stars or one graph has a $K_2$ component. We also refute Burr's stronger 1979 survey conjecture via an explicit finite counterexample from the star-forest theorem, and reformulate Faudree's 1991 theorem as a complete forest-classification corollary.

The inversion number statistic for inversion sequences
Inversion sequences, also known as subexcedant sequences, form a fundamental class of objects in enumerative combinatorics. In this paper, we study the joint distribution of five statistics on inversion sequences. While several statistics on inversion sequences have been extensively investigated, our contribution is to introduce the inversion number statistic, originally defined for permutations, into the context of inversion sequences. As special cases, we recover classical permutation statistics, including the Stirling, Mahonian and Eulerian distributions, as well as the Catalan and Narayana numbers. Somewhat unexpectedly, our specializations also include the number of involutions in the symmetric group. Our study arises from a $q$-analog of Comtet's expansion formula obtained by substituting the classical derivative operator $D$ with the $q$-derivative operator $D_q$.

Elementary symmetric polynomials and a potentially injective family of maps on partitions
In this article, we provide an infinite family of examples to disprove a recent conjecture due to Ballantine and her collaborators on the injectivity of a class of maps, namely pre_k, defined on integer partitions. These maps arise from applying the sequence of elementary symmetric polynomials to integer partitions, where pre_k is associated with the kth polynomial. Subsequently, we state a modified version of their conjecture. Throwing fresh light on these class of maps, we study the inter-relationships between them, deviating from the approaches so far, which study these maps one at a time. Though one case of the conjecture (k=2) has now been settled independently by the work of Ballantine and collaborators, and Li, we provide alternate proofs of three subcases corresponding to this settled case. We also discuss lower bounds for the number of partitions of n which are in the image of the map pre_2.

Orderings of Generalized k-Markov Numbers
A $k$-Markov number is a positive integer that appears in a positive integral solution to the Diophantine equation $x^2 + y^2 + z^2 + k(xy + xz + yz) = (3+3k)xyz$. This equation was introduced by Gyoda and Matsushita. When $k =0$, this definition recovers that of ordinary Markov numbers. The set of $k$-Markov numbers can be indexed by pairs of coprime positive integers. There is a consistent way to label non-coprime pairs with positive integers as well, yielding a larger set of ``generalized $k$-Markov numbers.'' In this paper, we classify lines along which the generalized $k$-Markov numbers grow monotonically, extending work in the ordinary case by Lee-Li-Rabideau-Schiffler and by the second author. We find that, as $k$ grows, the $k$-Markov numbers are more likely to be monotonic along a random line. This gives evidence that a $k$-version of Frobenius' uniqueness conjecture, which has been proposed by Gyoda and Maruyama, could be true.

Rado's covering problem for cubes and balls: a semi-survey
What is the largest constant $c\in [0,1]$ with the property that every finite collection $\mathcal{C}$ of axis-parallel squares in the plane admits a disjoint sub-collection $\mathcal{S}$ occupying at least a fraction $c$ of the area covered by $\mathcal{C}$? This problem was first raised by T.~Radó in 1928, who was motivated by a classical covering lemma in real analysis due to Vitali. R.~Rado later generalized the problem from axis-parallel squares in the plane to homothetic copies of any given convex body $K$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$, where now we are looking for an optimal constant $F(K)$. Our utmost interest is for cubes and balls in the high-dimensional regime $d\rightarrow \infty$. The estimates that we currently have for cubes are much more precise than those for balls: namely if $Q^d$ is a $d$-dimensional cube, then \[ (e^{-1}+o(1))\frac{2^{-d}}{d \log{d}} \leq F(Q^d)\leq 2^{-d}, \] while denoting $B^d$ a $d$-dimensional Euclidean ball, then \[ (1+ε_d)3^{-d}\leq F(B^d)\leq 2.447^{-d}, \] where $ε_d>0$ vanishes exponentially fast as $d\rightarrow \infty$. The latter upper bound is obtained here by using the Kabatiansky--Levenshtein bound for the sphere packing problem.
Fundamental cycles in grid graphs
We show that the average length of a fundamental cycle with respect to any fixed spanning tree of the $n\times n$ square grid is at least $Ω(\log n)$; the bound is asymptotically tight. This result answers in the affirmative a question posed by McCarty in relation to sparse representations of binary matroids.
