Two Families of $q$-Supercongruences from Watson's Transformation
In this paper, we establish two families of $q$-supercongruences modulo the third and fourth powers of a cyclotomic polynomial by employing Watson's ${}_{8}φ_7$ transformation, the creative microscoping method introduced by Guo and Zudilin, and the Chinese remainder theorem for coprime polynomials.

Large point-degrees in intersecting families of finite vector spaces
Let \(V\) be an \(n\)-dimensional vector space over the finite field \(\Fq\), and let \(\Gr{V}{k}\) denote the family of all \(k\)-dimensional subspaces of \(V\). A family \(\cF\subseteq\Gr{V}{k}\) is called intersecting if \(\dim(F\cap F')\ge1\) for all \(F,F'\in\cF\). For a point \(P\le V\), let \(d_P(\cF)\) denote the number of members of \(\cF\) that contain \(P\), and order the point-degrees as \(d_1(\cF)\ge d_2(\cF)\ge\cdots\ge d_{\points{n}}(\cF)\), where \(\points{m}=(q^m-1)/(q-1)\) is the number of points in an \(m\)-dimensional subspace. Recent work of Frankl and Wang~\cite{FW2025} and of Huang and Rao~\cite{HR2026} established that for \(k\)-uniform intersecting families \(\cF\subseteq\binom{[n]}{k}\) with \(n\ge2k+1\), the bound \(\binom{n-2}{k-2}\) governs the order statistic \(d_{2k+1}(\cF)\). We prove that every intersecting family \(\cF\subseteq\Gr{V}{k}\) with \(n\ge2k+1\) satisfies \(d_{\points{k}^{2}}(\cF)\le\qbinom{n-2}{k-2}\). The naive \(q\)-analog of the Huang--Rao \((k+2)\)-th degree theorem fails, as a vector-space Hilton--Milner construction has \(\points{k+1}\) points of degree larger than \(\qbinom{n-2}{k-2}\); we prove the corrected bound \(d_{1+\points{k+1}}(\cF)\le\qbinom{n-2}{k-2}\) for fixed \(q\), sufficiently large \(k\), and \(n>3k\), using a structural theorem of Ihringer and Kupavskii~\cite{IK2026}. For larger degree indices \(i\), a saturated Frankl--Hilton--Milner family of Ihringer and Kupavskii identifies the conjectural sharp bound on \(d_{\points{i+1}}(\cF)\), and we prove two necessary conditions that any strict counterexample to this conjecture must satisfy.
EL-Shellability of the poset of ranked cactuses
Recently the poset of ranked cactuses $(\mathfrak{P}(X),\preceq)$ was introduced. For a finite set $X$, this poset consists of a set $\mathfrak{P}(X)$ of certain collections of ordered pairs of subsets of $X$ together with an ordering $\preceq$ that is similar to the refinement ordering of partitions of a finite set. In addition, the maximal chains in this poset correspond to binary ranked cactuses, a fact which can be used to construct the so-called space of equidistant cactuses. In this paper, we show that the poset of ranked cactuses is EL-shellable. As a consequence we also show that the proper part of the link of the origin of the space of equidistant cactuses has the homotopy type of a wedge of spheres.

On the degree-$2$ Siegel theta series of extremal even unimodular lattices of ranks $48$, $72$, $96$, and $120$
We study degree-$2$ Siegel theta series of extremal even unimodular lattices from the genus-$2$ viewpoint initiated by Ozeki. Using Igusa's structure theorem, we define a depth filtration on genus-$2$ cusp forms, measured by the total degree in $χ_{10}$ and $χ_{12}$, and relate it to the vanishing of low Fourier--Jacobi coefficients forced by extremality. In ranks $48$, $72$, and $96$, this interaction closes exactly and yields a direct genus-$2$ proof that the degree-$2$ theta series is uniquely determined by extremality (conditional on existence in rank $96$). In rank $120$ (again conditional on existence), the same argument leaves a one-dimensional residual line spanned by $χ_{10}^6$: with $χ_{10}$ in the standard integral normalization, any two such degree-$2$ theta series differ by an integer multiple of $χ_{10}^6$.

Extremal Type II lattices of rank $72$ are generated by their second shell
We show that if $L$ is an extremal Type II lattice of rank $72$, then $L$ is generated by its vectors of norm $10$. The proof determines the full inner product distribution between the shells of norms $8$ and $10$ using the spherical $11$-design property of the norm-$10$ shell.

Combinatorics in one-based and related structures
We consider some extremal combinatorial questions for bipartite graphs definable in stable one-based (and related) structures. We show that they satisfy both strong Erdős-Hajnal property and linear Zarankiewicz. We also show that the same is true for both collapsed and uncollapsed Hrushovski's ``ab initio'' constructions, and discuss some connections to Zilber's trichotomy principle. For strong Erdős-Hajnal, we show that in fact it holds in a more general class of $1$-semi-equational theories.
New Codes from Cyclic and Negacyclic Codes of Even Length over $\mathbb{Z}_4$
This paper uses theoretical results previously established in the literature to design search algorithms to find new linear codes over $\mathbb{Z}_4$ from cyclic and negacyclic codes of even length. As a result of these searches, we have found 2500 new cyclic codes and 730 negacyclic codes. These new codes exhibit improved parameters compared to previously known codes. Additionally, we have obtained binary quantum codes with good parameters from such $\mathbb{Z}_4$ codes.
Many holes but no large one: maximizing $k$-holes while forbidding $(k+1)$-holes
We study the maximal number $m_{k,\ell,n}$ of empty convex $k$-gons ($k$-holes) determined by an $n$-point set in the plane in general position that contains no empty convex $\ell~$-gon, focusing on the first nontrivial case $\ell=k+1$. Our main result determines the exact value in the small-excess regime: for $n=k+a$ with $a\le k/2-1$, we prove $m_{k,k+1,k+a}=2^a.$ We also describe the extremal configurations attaining equality. Beyond this exact range, we provide upper and lower bounds in the proportional regime $n=αk$ and in the regime where $k$ is fixed and $n$ goes to infinity. In the last mentioned regime we prove that $m_{k,k+1,n}=Ω_k(n^{\lfloor\frac{k}{3}\rfloor})$ and $m_{k,k+1,n}=O_k(n^{\lceil\frac{k}{2}\rceil+1}).$

Pairwise meets of antichains in $\mathbb{Z}^d$
The meet of two points in $\mathbb{Z}^d$ is their coordinatewise minimum. We show that every finite antichain $A$ in $\mathbb{Z}^d$ has at least $c_d |A|^{d/(d-1)}$ distinct pairwise meets, where $c_d > 0$ depends only on $d$, and that the exponent $d/(d-1)$ is best possible. As a corollary we obtain an isoperimetric inequality for downsets: every finite downset $D$ in $\mathbb{Z}^d_{\geq 0}$ satisfies $|D| \geq c_d |\max(D)|^{d/(d-1)}$, where $\max(D)$ is its set of maximal elements. By prime factorization the meet bound also yields a lower bound on greatest common divisors: a primitive set of $N$ integers supported on at most $d$ primes has at least $c_d N^{d/(d-1)}$ distinct pairwise gcds.

A complete characterization of a family of permutation trinomials over $\mathbb F_{p^2}$
Let $p>3$ be a prime and let $$f_{λ_1,λ_2}(x)=x^{p^2-p+1}+λ_1x^{p^2}+λ_2x^{2p-1}\in\mathbb F_{p^2}[x].$$ We determine all pairs $(λ_1,λ_2)\in(\mathbb F_{p^2})^2$ for which $f_{λ_1,λ_2}$ is a permutation polynomial of $\mathbb F_{p^2}$. The final classification consists of three explicit families. The first one is the binomial case $λ_1=0$. The other two are obtained from the condition $λ_2=cλ_1^3$, with $c\in \mathbb F_{p}^{*}$, and are defined by two simple equations involving the norm $λ_1^{p+1}$. The proof is based on the AGW criterion and on the study of a quartic curve naturally associated with the rational function induced on the unit circle $μ_{p+1}$.

Area and water-capacity statistics for upper hulls of Dyck paths
We study Dyck paths refined simultaneously by proper area and water capacity, where water capacity is measured above the path and below its lattice-path upper hull. The finite-height ingredients used in the enumeration are classical bounded-height area-polynomial and continued-fraction objects. The upper-hull decomposition produces a coupled area--capacity substitution, which gives an exact four-variable height expansion with denominator branches indexed by the height levels. The full generating function is asymmetric in the two weights, while the height summands admit a symmetric unreduced denominator representation under interchange of the area and capacity weights. In the open square $0<p,q<1$, we prove that the length radius of $G(x,1,p,q)$ is the minimum of the positive real denominator branches. The proof combines uniform normal convergence of the height expansion below this first branch with a Perron-root representation of the branch locations and an interval log-submodularity theorem for spectral radii of weighted paths. On the diagonal $p=q=s$, the classical Chebyshev specialisation gives explicit branch crossings and a $(1-s)^{2/3}$ branch-envelope accumulation law at the Dyck critical point.

Covering $\mathbb{F}_2^n$ with Hamming Balls
Green asked the following question concerning structures in sumsets: Suppose that $\mathbb{F}_2^n$ is partitioned into sets $A_1, \dots, A_K$. Does $A_i+A_i$ contain a coset of codimension $O_K(1)$ for some $i$? An answer is not known even in the case of $K = 3$. We resolve this question in the affirmative in two special cases: (1) when $A_1, A_2$ are Hamming balls of radius $r < n/2 - 7$ relative to different bases, and (2) when $A_1$ is a Hamming ball of sufficiently small constant density.

Stolarsky-Type Inequalities in a Max-Convolution Problem
For $m \in \mathbb{N}$, let $q_m := \frac{\log(2m+1)}{2\log(m+1)}$. The max-convolution inequality \begin{align*} \sum_{k=0}^{2m}\left(\max_{i+j=k} x_i y_j \right)^{q_m} &\ge \left(\sum_{i=0}^{m} x_i\right)^{q_m} \left(\sum_{j=0}^{m} y_j\right)^{q_m} \end{align*}for arbitrary sequences $x_0 \ge x_1 \ge ... \ge x_m \ge 0, y_0 \ge y_1 \ge ... \ge y_m \ge 0$ implies an affirmative answer to a question of Bourgain, Dilworth, Ford, Konyagin, and Kutzarova \cite{BDFKK} on the sizes of sumsets in product sets. This inequality was proven for $m = 2$ by Becker, Ivanisvili, Krachun, and Madrid \cite{BIKM} by reducing the general case to the geometric block case via a max-tie analysis. We prove the geometric block case $x = (1, t, ..., t^{r}, 0, ..., 0)$ and $y = (1, t, ..., t^s, 0, ..., 0)$, $t \in [0, 1]$, for all $m \in \mathbb{N}$ via a comparison of Stolarsky means. Some perturbations are also verified. Finally, we prove the above inequality when one sequence has only two non-zero terms.

On the distributions of the statistics (des, maj, inv) over several classes of permutations
We investigate the joint distribution of the trivariate statistics (des, maj, inv) on classical permutations, Andre permutations of the first and second kinds, and Simsun permutations. By decomposing permutations according to the position of the smallest element, we obtain explicit recurrence relations for the generating functions of these statistics. In the classical permutation setting, our recurrence relation yields the generating function for the trivariate statistics (des, maj, inv) due to Gessel, which is typically proved using MacMahon's technique.

Optimal spectral rigidity of the hypercube via Bakry--Émery curvature
Hypercube graphs are fundamental model spaces of positive curvature in discrete comparison geometry. We establish the following spectral rigidity theorem. Let $G$ be a finite, connected, simple, unweighted graph with Bakry--Émery curvature bounded below by $K>0$. Denote by $Δ$ the maximum degree of $G$, and let $0=λ_0<λ_1\leq\cdots$ be the eigenvalues of the non-normalized Laplacian. Then $$ λ_{Δ-1}=K \quad\Longrightarrow\quad G\cong H_Δ, $$ where $H_Δ$ is the $Δ$-dimensional hypercube graph. Thus, in the unweighted setting, the multiplicity condition $λ_Δ=K$ appearing in the hypercube rigidity theorem of Liu, Münch, and Peyerimhoff can be weakened to $λ_{Δ-1}=K$. This improvement is optimal. The restriction to unweighted graphs is essential: the strengthened rigidity statement fails in the weighted setting. Our argument is built upon an interplay between the global spectral embedding induced by the first eigenspace and a local analysis of curvature matrices.

A solution to Csikvári's conjecture and the largest matching root of $k$-graphs
In 2011, Csikvári [Electron. J. Combin. {\bf 18} (2011), $\#$P182] proved that among all graphs with a prescribed number of edges, the largest matching root is attained by a threshold graph, and conjectured that the extremal graph should be `as star-like as possible.' In this paper, we give a complete and affirmative answer to this problem and extend it to the setting of uniform hypergraphs. We prove that for every $k$-graph $\mathcal{H}$ with $m$ edges, its largest matching root satisfies $$λ(\mathcal{H})\le m^{1/k},$$ with equality if and only if $\mathcal{H}$ is intersecting. For $k=2$, after deleting all isolated vertices, the resulting graph must be the star $K_{1,m}$ or a triangle, thereby confirming Csikvári's conjecture. Moreover, if the matching number $ν(\mathcal{H})\ge 2$, then \[ λ(\mathcal{H})\le \left(\frac{m+\sqrt{m^2-4(ν(\mathcal{H})-1)}}{2}\right)^{1/k}, \] with equality if and only if $ν(\mathcal{H})=2$ and $\mathcal{H}$ has exactly one $2$-matching.

Determinant formulas for Ihara zeta functions via simple cycles
Building upon the algebraic framework of trace monoids introduced by Giscard and Rochet, we establish a new determinant formula for the Ihara zeta functions of certain digraphs. We present our results through two main theorems. First, at the algebraic level, we show a general determinant formula expressed by a Cayley determinant over the hike monoid ring, which provides a unifying perspective on several known determinant expressions. Second, by evaluating the lengths of hikes through a natural ring homomorphism, we prove that the reciprocal of the Ihara zeta function can be explicitly expressed as a determinant whose dimension is equal to the number of simple cycles of the line digraph without backtrack.

Cheeger-type inequalities for the second largest spectral gap from $1$ of the normalized Laplacian
We study the second largest spectral gap from $1$ of the normalized Laplacian of a graph, a quantity that appears in the literature in connection with random walks, expander graphs, and Ramanujan graphs. We relate it to the classical Cheeger and dual Cheeger constants, and we introduce a new Cheeger-type constant admitting a probabilistic interpretation in terms of two-step random walks. For this constant, we establish sharp inequalities analogous to the classical Cheeger inequalities.

Deformation Theory and Torus-Fixed Geometry of the Nested Hilbert Scheme of Points
In this thesis, we study the nested Hilbert scheme ((\mathbb{A}^2)^{[n,n+1]}=\mathrm{Hilb}^{n,n+1}(\mathbb{A}^2)) from a combination of deformation theory, torus actions, and Young diagram combinatorics. We first recall the scheme theory and functor basics needed to define Hilbert schemes. We then use a classic result on first-order deformations to identify (T_I(\mathbb{A}^2)^{[n]}\cong \mathrm{Hom}*{\mathbb{C}[x,y]}(I,\mathbb{C}[x,y]/I)). For a nested pair (I\subset J), with (\dim*{\mathbb{C}}\mathbb{C}[x,y]/I=n+1) and (\dim_{\mathbb{C}}\mathbb{C}[x,y]/J=n), the tangent space becomes a compatibility kernel (T_{(I,J)}(\mathbb{A}^2)^{[n,n+1]}\cong \ker(\mathrm{Hom}(I,R/I)\oplus \mathrm{Hom}(J,R/J)\to \mathrm{Hom}(I,R/J))). The torus-fixed points are indexed by a partition (λ\vdash n+1) together with a removable corner (c) of its Young diagram. This corner is not only combinatorial, but also the monomial form of a one dimensional socle direction in (R/I_λ). The blow-up map to ((\mathbb{A}^2)^{[n]}\times \mathbb{A}^2) has fibres given by projective spaces of one-dimensional quotients of (J/\mathfrak m_pJ), whose torus-fixed points are addable boxes of the smaller diagram. These two local fibres explain how the universal family, the blow-up geometry, and Young diagram combinatorics come together in the study of the local geometry of the nested Hilbert scheme of points. Finally, we derive the tangent weight formula at a fixed point ((I_λ,I_{λ\setminus c})) in the torus convention used in the thesis. Using the standard arrow basis, we show in the proof how the arm-leg weights are modified by the compatibility kernel through a shortening rule determined by (c). A Macaulay2 verification computes the compatibility kernel from monomial syzygies and checks the weight formula for all partitions of size at most (16).
